Rivet style bead caps

Aug 17, 2004 6 Replies

I wanted to use Hill Tribe silver, and was trying to find a bead cap that would look good with it. Bali looks just too intricate and delicate with it. One of those silver capped beads would look good with it, so I was thinking about asking Tink and others where they get their "rivets". I finally found them in the new Rio catalogue on page 408. The diameter is

11.1 mm, and it's very, very shallow. This is a great addition, for lampwork with its straighter sides.

Tina,

Just wanted to pop in here and say that my riveted caps are punched out sterling disks that are annealed then shaped in a dapping block. I use sterling tubing through the center as the rivet, which is also dapped into place.

The nice thing about that is that I can make them whatever size I wish.

Thanks, Tink. I was wondering about that. I did think you hand made those riveted caps, and just hoped there was an easier solution. These caps from Rio are 10 for $13, so I hope to find another source, now that I know they exist. I like Bali, but sometimes something sleeker is what is called for.

There is a really nice cap out there in two sizes that I think you'd like. I got mine from this guy in India who was such a pain to work with that I'll never go that route again. I do know that SOMEONE online does carry these, though I can't for the life of me remember today. Maybe someone knows?

I'll keep looking.

By the way, I got my wonderful vessel today. The black tip and winged handles give it a classic look. (Is it Art Neuveau, or Art Deco I'm thinking of) Love it.

Thanks! I'm so glad you're happy with it!
