Thank you! They're really rewarding to make; go together fast, but turn out pretty impressive :o)

Mine came out the right colours but even at the highest resolution it came out grainy because of the light of the scanner. They're great for photo's but not so good for 3D. (Mine is a HP1205).

For the same price I could have got a good second hand camera and some close up filters that would do a better job. A Few lamps to light the set up and I'm sorted. They also look far more natural than pressed flat on a scanner.

I must confess, I just spent far too much money on a new Minolta Dimage Z1 Digital Camera. I can shoot from 4cm away from the object (closer if I borrow my boyfriends close up filters). It did have 10% off though... which was my justification! I took this with it yesterday using a pieces of A4 as a background and a halogen lamp that cost £3.90.

Then I read the manual and found out lots more cool stuff that I have to try! Anyway, I think I'm rambling, it's getting late.

I feel the same way about bracelets. And my skin is so soft/fragile, I can't put any weight at all on my earlobes or they stretch.

Good outdoor light, a dull steel-grey background, and a camera with a good macro mode is the only way I've been able to photograph that stuff.

Yes, sterling contains a tiny amount of copper and nickel, so if you're allergic to nickel, sterling often also causes a problem. You *might* not be allergic to fine silver, which is .999 pure silver rather than .925. It might be worth a try!

How do you get around the ugly and unnatural highlight? If I could work that out then I'd be happier (still wouldn't use it, but would know what was wrong). I think they're the same resolution so it shouldn't be a problem.

Just had a look at your webpage (very nice jewellery). But if you notice, along all your ear wires and beads there is a line of white highlight where the scanner bar light has passed them. That's what I was referring too. I got terrible shadows behind alot of my pieces too.

well, after doing some scanning tonight, trying for a new logo, i found some more controls built into the HP scanner software. and i'm finding that after doing the "preview" and choosing the section of the scan i want, playing with the "lighten/darken" options, and within that, the "highlights/midtones/shadows" and the "sharpen" and "descreen" options, i'm getting rid of most of that. so it looks like i'll be rescanning a lot of it, now that i know more about what those options actually do. as much as i love my camera, i get better resolution and clearer pictures from the scanner. less color shift, too - - except that i don't think "clear Swarovski" can be done well, no matter what. those crystals just throw TOO much light around.

I might have a play with ours again. I can't get around the shadow. I'm also going to have a try at swarovski crystals tonight or tomorrow to see what results I get. I've only got some little ones, but I'll have a go anyway! Just found out a really annoying thing though. I wanted an accessories for my camera that should only cost about £4, but it only comes with an add on lens that will set me back £90!
