Hold the plier so the "tooth" is pointing down. Open the plier and slide the split ring on the end positioned below the tooth. Close the plier and the tooth will separate the two rounds on the split ring -- ease your charm or whatever on the now separated end, take the split ring off the plier and finish working the charm around.

You make it sound so easy, Marilee.

My method:

a. Open the plier and slide the split ring on.

b. Close the plier.

c. Hunt for the split ring since rather than opening it you shot it off into the carpet.

d. Get another split ring.

e. Get the plier tip wedged firmly in the ring, opening it a millimeter or so.

f. Attempt to slide whatever on the ring.

g. Hunt for both the split ring and the whatever.

Repeat from a above until frustration tolerance is exceeded.

h. Pour a large glass of wine and start over.

i. Use your fingernail to open the #$%$^% split ring and shove the #$%$^% whatever on.

j. Repeat from h above until either the wine or your supply of usable fingernails is exhausted.

Check fishing supply places-- they have them with the tools to set up the lines on the poles. Also split rings (not as nice as jewelry dept ones), and really neat swivel thingies.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on
