You know the ones I hate so much and think they should be ILLEGAL? The ones that have a closeing gadget in the upper right hand corner, but IT DOESN'T CLOSE THE POP-UP... it just takes you to the website. I HATE THEM. I am dumb enough that I will occasionally reflexively click on it, and end up instantly kicking myself.

I'm curious - what about XP do you hate?

What most people do not realize is that the things they do on a computer do not affect Windows near as much as they think. They do affect different programs that run on the Windows platform, and THAT is a whole different critter.

I went from 98SE to XP Pro on my system last September. It's now a four year old computer but it runs as smooth as silk. It helps that I configured the system with a long life in mind. I did a complete reformat and reinstalled everything, which is the best way to upgrade your OS.

I kinda find it toooo "user friendly". To a level that's actually invasive. I've been gradually finding and turning off everything that's supposed to be "helpful".

It's also slow. Bothersomely slow. Downright sluggish, compared to 2000! I hear XP Professional is better, though, and also nowhere near as "helpful".

The biggest problem with Windows isn't really a Windows problem but an end user issue. Nowadays, people do not want to learn how to use their computer. They want to sit down and start running - forget about walking. Windows XP is just too cartoon'ish for my tastes so my system is set for Classic. I use a black desktop (keeps system resources low) and no screen savers. I used to use all the externally pretty stuff but learned that those things can really screw a computer up.

If I had to guess, Kalera, you've been using a computer for some time now. :-)

Yes... once upon a time I attended user's groups and whatnot, and was on BBSes from the late '80's on. (IOW, I'm a NERD!)

I've shifted away from being REALLY into computers, (member of Portland Amiga User Group when I was 18, had a rocket-fast A3000!) but the last one I had was a souped-up Mac from 1995 that just plain couldn't keep up anymore. This is my first Windows machine, and although I'm loving the processer speed, Windows makes me nuts.

I did the same thing with setting the appearances to Classic, and also promptly deleted every stitch of Compaq software I could find... it was plain obnoxious! Yeargh.

I don't watch TV, and I CERTAINLY don't want my computer to resemble Nickelodeon!
