Ulcers/Heartburn etc

Thank you all for the good wishes you posted a week ago or so when I was awaiting results from my ulcer tests. I have no ulcer, but do have esophageal reflux diseas in the mild to moderate stages. (ie..bad heartburn that was eroding my esophagus. ew.)

I have been on one week of medicine (Protonix) and while wickedly expensive, it's working like a CHARM.

One of the symptoms I complained of to my doc was daily "runs", and now that I'm not longer eating Mylanta like candy, that's disappeared!

WHY did I wait over a year? Sheesh. Baw to me.

Did you ask your doc why he did not Rx one of the older reflux meds that is now generic and a lot cheaper. The protonix sales person probably was in his office last week and snowed him with freebies.

Oh man I'm with you! I had my gallbladder out 10 years ago (started going weird when I was preggers with my son 2 years earlier). Before that I lived on Mylanta....preggers or not. I had horrible heartburn for over 10 years. Arrgh! My beloved surgeon (how often do you get to say that?) prescribed Prilosec, when it was brand-new. Took it for 6 weeks and it was all gone! I have occasional flares when I eat something really stupid, but other than that, life is very very good.

And yeah, I hear you about the runs on Mylanta. But like I said in another post, it sure prevented pregnancy-induced hemorrhoids! LOL

Having a bit of heartburn right now. Seems that I can no longer eat peanut butter ice cream. And Ben and Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream is sooooooo good.

I got the first two weeks free from the doc...the older ones have some feature that he dislikes in favor of this one. He thinks this will be a limited course, which is great!

If I need to go more, I'll be sure to ask if the older or OTC ones would be ok. I just know that this cleared up the pain in about three days...yEAH!...

I guess there was a small modicum of urgency to clearing up the erosion...gawd!

My husband has "stomach trouble", apparently due to a hereditary small-out opening in his stomach. Nexus works best, but his doc said 2 Prilosec is about the same thing, but cheaper (since we don't have prescriptions paid for). He now is free from daily heartburn for the first time.

And here's a funny little story. The left side of Pete's torso has white hair, and his right side has dark blond hair. He has asked many doctors about it, and none of them had an explanation. But recently he asked a Korean traditional doctor/herbalist if he had any explanation, and he immediately diagnosed it as a reflection of stomach problems. As Pete is continuing using the Prilosec and herbs he got in Chinatown, the white hair is coloring up again.

Good to hear that the meds are helping already!

I had a doctor tell me that one shouldn't worry so much about those things that come and go but anything that is wrong and stays should be looked at before it becomes an irreversible or worse problem. Fair advice I suppose.

Kevin has that, and Kevin takes that. Great stuff. He got his ERD when a pressure sore caused him to spend a semester in bed. (Quads have the strangest lives sometimes.)

No -- Protonix is much, much better, actually. It makes your tissue repair itself. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

Glad to hear you're feeling better! I can't sympathise about the price, because I get all the latest medicines for my knee free on National Health Service (as much as some people complain about it, I love it!)
