What's that Smell?

Okay, I admit, I've been lazy this week, and haven't made beads since last Friday. The only time I went out to my studio in my garage was when I went out to feed my pet mice. (They became pets when their mother gave birth to them in my humane trap.)

So, I finally turn on the kiln for the first time in a week, sort some mandrels, and start pulling some stringers while the kiln is heating up. After a while, something starts to smell pretty good. It smells like cookies baking. Then it starts to smell like burnt candy. I turned off the kiln to let it cool down again, and opened it up to see what I had been cooking.

Turns out, I forgot to put the lid on the box where I store treats for my pet mice. "Wild" mice had taken the stale cereal I had brought out, and decided the kiln was a good place to store it!

We always have a family in the garage during the winter.

4 years ago, when my husband was deployed overseas, I had parked his truck in the third stall for the winter. The mice decided that INSIDE the engine would make a nice home, so they went over to the air filter and shredded it to furnish the engine. They also added leaves, grass and other debris throughout the winter. Spring came, and I tried to start the truck. Funny, it wouldn't start. I figured the battery had died over the winter, and had it towed into town. The manager called a little later and said there had been mice in the system, and it would probably take about 4 hours of labor to get it cleared out. 2 days later, untold hours of labor and a papercarton full of mouse debris, the truck ran again. Luckily, the manager took pity on my and only made me pay for the originally quoted 4 hours of labor! (since husband was deployed, and due back any day)

LOL!!

We had a friend that was getting his house appraised to re-finance. He stuck all the dirty (plastic) dishes in the oven to hide them.

You can guess what happened next. He forgot about the dishes, and later was preheating the oven to heat up something.

It was pretty bad. He had to get a new oven. Is it any wonder why this guy's not married?
