Your polishing grit and walnut shell can be used over and over.

Here is another VERY GOOD tumbling tip! This will save you alot of money, because the polishing grit will last a very long time and can be used over and over and over. You made need to add more grit, as you will lose some that has collected on any items you may be polishing, when you wash them off.

How to save polishing grit and walnut shells

Your polishing grit and walnut shell can be used over and over.

There are 2 ways to save the polishing compounds when you have finished the polishing stage. The first way is to

sieve the contents through an old pair of pantyhose and just collect the walnut shell and polishing powder off that

storing it in a sealed container covered with water (so it doesn't dry out). This is the way I was told to do it, but....as

of late I have figured out a better method.

Find yourself a small bucket that has a lid, tip the entire contents of your tumbler into this bucket (obviously the

bucket would have to have a bigger capacity than the tumbler or tumblers). What ever room is left in your small bucket carefully fill with water to about 2 inches to the top.

Carefully remove the itemsfrom the bucket, trying to make sure you scrape off as much of the polish and walnut

shell as possible, a quick swirl in the mixture usually cleans most of it off (hence the extra water). Once all your

shells have been removed seal the bucket up and place it some where safe and out of the way.

When you need to polish again carefully take down your bucket, making sure not to disturb the contents. When you

open the bucket you should find the polishing material has settled to the bottom of the bucket.

Use a cup or some sort of container and remove as much clear water as possible. What you should have left is just

a soggy mess of polish powder and walnut shell. You can place this back into you tumbler/s using a little bit of

water to move the more stubborn stuff.

I hope many people find this to be very helpful and will try and use their tumblers to create and share the beauty that comes from them. Thank you.

Harry -- thanks for the tips. Makes me want to tumble something just for the heck of it.

I have three tumblers.. well 1 3lb tumbler and 1 3lb tumbler with 2 barrels and I need another one for my large items. I am trying to save for a 12 lb tumbler so I can do my large shell pieces and mcuh larger stones and pieces of glass. I want to try and do a whole bottle or jar. Keep this a secret... If you can find the old Noxema jars they make beautiful Cobalt Blue Sea and Beach glass. Shhh... You didn't hear it from me. lol

actually, i was going to bid on all three sets that are there, to see where it went.

BIN prices are totally up to YOU. sorry - but as yet, i wouldn't have any idea what to set them at. someone else here can give you better information on that. i think BIN prices are what you would sell them for at retail?

i don't really do auctions and don't have PayPal. #1 son does. so i have him do it for me.

LOL.. Like the beach glass huh? :) If you look around you can find hundreds of items that when tumbled are beautiful treasures. The secret to what will look good and what will look boring is this: If it's pretty when it's wet.. it will be beautful tumbled. I have an easy solution for your 1 barrel delema.... buy extra barrels. :) I have 3 for my Lorton, but only 2 for my Thumbler, but am going to buy

4 more for it AFTER I get my 12 lb one.

OK.. I will post a few more so you will be sure to get some. People wait till the last minute and them jump on them. Is there an amount of round pieces you would like? 2, 4, 6, 8? My normal retial is usually around $1.25 each, but I haven't been selling them for that where it is Christmas. I will set a price of $0.50 cents each for 6 I guess will be $3.00 to start and I will place a Buy Now at $5.99? I won't put a photo and this way you will know which one it is and everyone else will pass it up. :)

I listed 2 sets of 6 pieces without photos, but if you want a photo I will be happy to scan one and post it on my website so you can see exactlly what you will get. I think I will anyway. I know I wouldn't want to buy them with out seeing what I was getting. Be back in a few.

no - don't sell yourself or your work short. i just had some ideas i wanted to try out on them - wire wrapping them.

i'd buy them direct from your site, but couldn't pick specific items from there.

In about 32 or 3 days I will have some great pieces that you can use for wire wrapping. I guess you could use these, but they are small and kind of thin.. not rel thin, but I don't know much about wire wrapping. I bought some on Ebay and am going to try some day. lol >vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from Harry : >
