OT: Ping BEI

I noticed you have sewn some Highland dancing clothing on your website.

Do you make the kilts also? How many yard kilts are they?

Yes.

I made my DGD's competition kilt (and jacket, Aboyne skirt, etc.). She is 15 and about done growing. Her teacher picked up the fabric in Scotland two summers ago. She picked up 3.5 yards of double wide tartan, which makes a 7 yard kilt. I would much prefer 4 yards for an 8 yard kilt (or more). I am going to make my son-in-law a full 8 yard kilt.

Bev.. are you prepared to wipe out what is left of ASME simply to serve your own pomposity in feeding the Gymmy Bob nutcase? Yes, I know you are.. you are EXACTLY the woman he seeks out in groups . I tell you it will end in tears, for you. Linked to is just one example of how Gymmy Bob "deals with" __his__ wimmin. Every response you open your legs wider. Umm.. figuratively. HE wouldn't f*ck you if you had all the kilts in Scotland! Gymmy hates woman. HE is quite psychotic over it.

Do yourself and Usenet a huge favour - READ the post with quotes. Note the group posted to.

Nice! I own a thinner one but it doesn't stand up well after a few nights of wear. We did Scotish Country dancing for three years until my achilles tendons gave out and the club politics became too up-front..LOL A woman in our club made her husbands kilt (11 yard...I think). Looked good. Appologies for the other item.

Enjoying the swim, drowning goose! Next we get into your possession of heads in the cross-gender groups. You will need to refresh "get new" quickly!

Wont that be fun! You get a new frock and make yourself all pretty for the amazed audience. Do not forget the lipstick, Pig.

Traditionally, the amount used depends more on the size of the wearer and the weight of the fabric... A standard double width kilt in medium weight cloth (12 oz) or an average size man (about 5'10 and with a

34"-36" waist) uses 3.7m - about 8 yards. a 14oz heavy cloth will use more to allow for turn-of-cloth and the extra needed for the resulting pleating differences...

I'm setting out on this adventure again after Christmas, with cloth from Lochcarron in Selkirk. Yummee! I'll put up with the itchy reactions to wool for that!

I agree, the amount of tartan depends on the size of the wearer. However, since I am fussy about getting just the right stripe centered on both the over- and under-aprons, and also having enough to make the CB join lay just right, I like to have some excess to play with.

I'm pretty sure the 13 oz. "Dress Royal McKellar " tartan

DGD's competition kilt came from D. C. Dalgliesh.http://www.dcdalgliesh.co.uk/Happily, I don't have an allergic reaction to working with wool. Now, I am just waiting for DSIL to make up his mind which tartan he really, Really, REALLY wants before tackling another one. Right now, he's tending toward Lochcarron's Isle of Skye
