I just installed PED basic on my Windows XP machine. Until I reboot I can run it, but the first time I reboot, my computer restarts half way through the startup cycle, so PED must be doing something nasty to my registry. My ultimate goal is to install PED 5 upgrade, but I can not do this because I apparently need PED basic properly installed first. I am not finding anywhere on Brother's site a phone number or a link for this software's support. Any help would be appreciated.

Colleen, I don't know about why your computer restarts halfway through startup cycle but PED Basic does work on XP. I don't think you can upgrade to PE Design 5 from Basic - you have to upgrade from any of the previous versions of PE Design. As an extra, my sister has version 5 installed on her computer and it conflicts with her scanner software so maybe that could be part of the problem. Cheers................Lynne
you can click on the "Start" button and click "Run" then in the popup dialog box type "msconfig" and hit enter.
The "System Configuration utility" will then open. In here goto the "Startup" tab and look for any programs associated with the offending application and uncheck them. Now they won't run on startup and you should once again be able to boot the machine.
If you need more hands on help, I would be happy to chat with you via IM.
