Which mastic is best?

Hey, I need help. I want to glue a mirror to the inside of my TV entertainment center. I ordered the glass (27x38) but the glue (putty colored) that Biswanger sold me didn't work and I held it in place for over an hour. It very slowly slid down the wall of the cabinet but didn't break, thanks to TV cords. I need the name of a black mastic that I saw an installer use putting up a huge bath mirror with no blocks to hold it in place.

The wood of the cabinet is really laminate with a stain on it. I wonder if that makes a difference...I know about using blocks but it would be hard since a widescreened TV has already been installed inside.

If anyone knows the name of a really strong, instant bonding mastic I would sure appreciate the tip. Thanks...Robbielynn

Minimum clamp time is going to be in the neighborhood of 24 hours.

Both surfaces must be clean and dry. Clean them with a "wax and grease remover" and wipe dry with paper towels. Any rags you have are probably either dirty or have fabric softener residue.

I'm sure the initial problem is not due to the adhesive but you should check to form an idea of whether the one you do use will withstand the different expansion and contraction rates of the differing materials that may occur during temperature changes. -----

First you need to coarsely sand down the laminate in order to get a "tooth" for the mastic to adhere to.

Well, I will definately clean, becuase I have to get old glue residue off as well. There's no way to clamp...just flat verticle service that meets with an inside corner. I will use clean rags. Thanks...but I do think the glue was bad that they gave me. I need the black stuff. Robbie

In another field, I've often found one glue is sometimes better than two. I use certain quick adhesives applied in spots to hold materials in place while the slower and stronger adhesives applied over the greater surface area of the piece set up.
