And completely OT

Well, life is changing - I've gone back to work. I'm substitute teaching in my school district. I've been cleared for all grades, but would prefer elementary school. I figure I have enough trouble with one hormonal child, a whole class room seems beyond me right now.

So, I spent the last two days teaching fifth grade in the same school DS went to and DD is at now. I lucked out that the science portion is an old hobby of mine - geology. So on day 2, I brought in rock from my collection. "Language Arts" was pretty easy, math was the hard part. And all the years of Cub and Girl Scouts made the "management" part easy.

So, I've ended the last two days with achy feet; BUT, I am eager to go back.

Never fear - I'll just start getting up earlier for "breakfast" and to "do chores" in case the phone rings. LOL

(snip)

I have found a new purse project, having finished the last one during my first "free" the first day.

You'll all love this - first day, I had "lunch duty". Because of space constraints, all grades rotate through having lunch in their classrooms. My kids went down and returned and another 25-30 troop in with them. OK - must be the way it is every day. No worries, I can handle this. Asked them to keep it quiet and neat.

Five minutes later, another teacher comes in to thank me and to explain that there are diesel fumes coming into their rooms from the sidewalk repair. The kids are quiet, for a sub? A new sub?

Sounds like you are gonna be an excellent sub, one who teaches rather than babysits for a day!

Hope you keep having fun with it!

I suspect I won't always luck out with them having a subject I know well for science. And teaching math is hard when they seem to be utterly clueless about things "I Think" they should have covered...

Am I the only one upon first reading thought Cheryl was working on a purse? LOL

I did have to reread that line in context, and understood.

Best of luck, Cheryl. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

My dad's a substitute teacher, and one of the things he likes best is having control over his schedule: Even if the phone rings offering a job, he doesn't *have* to take it! I think just knowing you have the option of saying no (even if you never use it) is empowering.

With best regards,

That is one of the nice things, if one of the kids is sick or I just can't hack it, I can say not today thank you!
