Back from the framer's

I picked up two pieces from the framer's yesterday, Celtic Christmas and a band sampler from Earth Threads.

Meredith,

Your Celtic Christmas is gorgeous. I don't think I will ever be brave enough to try something like that.

Such lovely work -- I have CC in my stash but who knows if I will ever get to it??? The ONLY problem with doing any of the MLI women designs over 1 is that the face is done the same as the rest of the design. But it's just sooooo lovely and much more delicate in appearance to have the whole thing done over 1. I have a friend who did one of the MLI Santas and I tried like the devil to get her to do the face over 1 but she wouldn't hear of it. Then she saw an MLI piece done with the face over 1 and was totally P.O'd that she hadn't taken the time to chart the Santa face out over 1. Heck -- I even offered to do the rechart for her but she was adamant! No idea why either as she is a very skilled needleworker and combining over 1 with over 2 wouldn't have been a problem. I think it was making the change. She is not a "change something" sort of person. Anyway -- The two pieces you just had framed are quite wonderful. And I agree -- I do like having that metallic area around the design. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Love the band sampler. And admire you for doing the Celtic Xmas...

The Celtic Christmas image looks as though it might be based upon St Lucy. In Norway and in Orkney it was the custom on 13th December for a girl in a white dress (representing the saint), with a wreath on her head in which burning candles are placed, to awaken the family from sleep and offer a tray with coffee and cakes! The impersonation was called Lussibrud, meaning ?Lucy bride.? Nowadays Orkney just has a small festival in St Magnus with a young girl wearing the wreath with candles.

Very nice! The frame you picked for CC goes very well with it!

Congrats!. They both look lovely. I have several Earth Threads pieces - and I actually seem to finish them at times. This reminded me that maybe I'll pull the Forest Sampler, all kitted up, closer to front of the queue!

Enjoy your pretties.

It does look great. When I was working at my friend's LNS, and that pattern had come out recently, someone stitched it & we framed it - had it for a shop sample for a year. The piece won a ribbon at Woodlawn, IIRC, that year. But, instead of the red mat, it was done with a green suede mat, and also looked stunning. Just an idea for those working the piece. But, not to take away from Meredith's gorgeous piece. I still have Celtic Spring in the stash....waiting....waiting....waiting....
