Thanks for the info on the book, Mirjam. From what I can see of some of the reviews, it sounds like a good book.

Candace Bahouth has a lovely book inspired by medieval patterns as well. Title is just Medieval Needlepoint, although I think it may have had some sort of subtitle in the US. Dawne

I have done many items out of Bahouth's books and this is a good one. I agree ! There is an errata on Maytime,Fleur de Lys, and Starry Night but if you are just using the patterns at your own will, no problems with that. I tend to like fleur de lis patterns and really enjoyed doing the cushion from the book. I did it in silks 10 or more years ago and it is still wonderful ! I am not big on larger count canvas so did many on small count and really really enjoyed them. The Illuminated Manuscript cushion was especially nice . I started the vest but never finished it. All in all made about 10 items out of that book back when it came out and really got my money's worth. I am big into the french fleurs though. Some day I want to make the rug of the mille fleurs if I can find a pattern. I really really enjoy what I learned from her class as well. I never never never never do the background flatly any more. It is always blended in the background as she suggests now and it makes all the difference to the piece. I also , on a side note might suggest Medieval Needlepoint by Debby Robinson. I have done many items out of this book as well. These items are not to the scale of Bahouth's work but a good choice. This makes me want to pull out and work on the Hours piece again. I best do it before my eyesight desides for me ! barbara in williamsburg

Thank you BDiane , i have no intention to make any pattern from thise books . What i have in mind is to learn from other makers, how to work my texts in a more visible method... thus i look at those books , take colored pencils or colored threads and , make little excercises on a big white sheet of paper ,,,,

In on of my latest works i embroidered text on a green background, part was in black, loked great , part in blue looked great , part in pink [ it is almost ok , but gets tottaly lost in photographs .Which is always problematic , but esp in this work, as a certain place asked for a Photo /copy of it. On a woven [ all black wool background] there are 2 texts , a Hebrew one woven into the black background, and a German one embroidered with Xst over the Hebrew one in red and Yellow.. this one worked wonderful .after i researched [ by pencil and threads ] how each color is effected by the way you work it. mirjam
