Anyone have a good recipe? My hubby came home with a head of cabbage and want to use it up. Haven't had cabbage rolls in ages. Thanks Carol

I have a great recipe Carol - in fact I bought a cabbage just Saturday so I could make them for tomorrow. Email me tomorrow and I'll gladly send you the recipe.

I did something the other day - I'm sure someone somewhere has given it a name, but I felt as if I'd invented it:
I sliced some cabbage thinly (as if for coleslaw), added some grated cheese, and tin of tuna, and mayonnaise. With a bit of freshly ground pepper, it was superb.
Okay - I know it's not cabbage rolls, but you could try this with what's left over!

Rather than a recipe - here's a good tip when you go to make cabbage rolls. Freeze the cabbage. Let it thaw then start peeling the leaves off. They will have wilted and be easy to roll around the stuffing.
Saves blanching and much burning of fingers - at least that was always what I wound up doing.
this is one i use but i don't use the green peppers all the time. a.. 1 head cabbage b.. 1 pound hamburger c.. 1 pound bulk sausage d.. 1/2 small box instant white rice or wild rice e.. 2 large sweet diced onions f.. 1/2 pod diced sweet green bell pepper g.. 1 tablespoon parsley h.. 4 tablespoons sauerkraut i.. 4 tablespoons canned tomatoes, diced j.. 1 teaspoon salt k.. 1 teaspoon pepper. l.. 3 cups sauerkraut m.. 2-4 cup canned tomatoes
Put one large head cabbage in large pot of salted boiling water. Boil on medium for 20 minutes or till tender. Leave it on the stove and with a knife and fork, cut off one leaf at a time and follow the following directions:
Using your hands mix the meat, rice, onions, bell pepper, parsley, 4 Tbsp sauerkraut and 4 Tbsp canned tomatoes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Grease bottom of large pot. Place about 1/2 cup mixture on cabbage roll and roll up like an egg roll, tucking ends and trimming hard core top. Line pot with cabbage rolls. Sprinkle about 1 cup kraut and 1 cup tomatoes over rolls.
Repeat to make 2 to 4 layers.
Cook on medium heat for about 2 hours.
Another idea for a cabbage roll dish is to layer the ingredients in a casserole dish and bake. Same taste with a lot less work.

No one but me in my household likes cabbage rolls, so I used to cook a batch when I spent a weekend at the cottage. My late lamented dog Suzan would sniff around beseechingly, but at first would only eat the meat from the rolls, ignoring the cabbage. Eventually, however, she would devour a plate of cabbage rolls, cabbage and all. A weekend mostly indoors with a cabbage roll eating dog is not for those of delicate olfactory sensibilities. Dawne
But would probably give Pat P her desired understanding of what skunk smells like. "Like this!"
My sweet little Emilie can make the whole house smell like a skunk's been through, and doesn't even require cabbage or chili or any other pungent foods to accomplish it.
Try living with a bloodhound who adores Brussels sprouts! I reckon even a skunk would feel inadequate!

Oh - NOW I get it! A skunk smells like dog-fart!!! No need for the bottle, Cheryl - I get the picture!

The mind boggles!

Only sort of! there is just so many layers of nuance to the scent - vomit, rotten garbage, fart, carrion, teenage male BO.
I think I lost a few pounds during the worst of it, 'cause just didn't feel like eating or drinking anything!
Oh, yeah? Try having a Maine Coon that decides in the same day to try sauerkraut and 4 bean salad. I was ready to trade him in for a skunk! I was also quite prepared to endure jailtime for the husband who fed him scraps that day....

I don't blame you!
