Cats and Needlework

No cat, now allergic to them. BUT, my sister's cat would lie down on my knitting, my book, my fabric if sewing or cutting..... Dang thing wouldn't come near me unless I was doing something other than sitting watching the tube.

We used to have a dachsie who would stretch out on top of a book if I was reading. Clearly anything that didn't have to do with him wasn't worth doing, in his opinion. Typical dachsie attitude....

Why bother when she can step right in the middle of the hoop, loosening the fabric just enough to make a comfy pillow?

I don't know about cats, but I have a little dog who loves to sit on my lap and move my hoop out of his way with his paw. Plus, he learned the hard way to keep his wet nose and his furry paws out of the tray that holds all my supplies.

Now, the main problem is not getting his long, silky hair woven into the piece I'm working on.

They lay on the pattern I'm stitching from, the book/mag/newspaper I'm reading from, the keyboard I'm typing on, walk across the piano keys I'm playing... if they could figure out a way, they'd lay across the T.V. screen....I have a bin full of the yarn I'm using for a NP project, and one has decided it makes an admirable cat bed - I ended up laying some paper over it to keep the yarn clean.

I'm being forced into neatness when working. I keep my yarn in a zippered bag at all times, otherwise one or the other cat decides on a nap. (see my WIP album). Same with beads. There's something about a loose pile of beads that makes them want to plump their hairy little bums down on it. I've also become very good about making sure the lids to containers on the work table are secure.

I have two siamese and the youngest one, just loves to play/eat my floss. The older one, well him loves to sit/sleep on my books, pattern and my work.

My Siamese is about 11 years old now, and she is still very playful. She's a velcro cat - loves to sit and warm her feet on me. I have my uses. Dora

i crochet. my 12 yr old charlie cat lays on/over/under/around and in my latest project as i work...

then she bats my yarn around and gets down under the table and SITS on the bag w/yarn so i have to lift her sizeable 15 lb rump to salvage it!

so i made a small scarf and wrapped it rnd her shrek dolly-and she pulled it off w/teeth and bats it under the table.....

i think she thinks she's being helpful......

Had a cat that always wanted to sit on a body's lap when they were reading, stitching, sewing, using the computer, whatever.

Couldn't get her to stop, would even walk on the keyboard to get attention. She wasn't fond of loud noises, so a short burst with the vacuum/stick blender usually sent her sulking off to her own room to rest. Fey

My vet told me that cats are very tuned in to the waves of concentration you emit and therefore that is why they get between you and the newspaper, the computer - whatever. Most cat servants relate to cats doing this, so it seems it is a common trait amongst them.
