Going off the beaten path -

Has anyone ever seen elastic in colors other than black or white?

Or know if I try dying it, it would take color?

Bobbie gifted be a neat button bracelet - all sorts of buttons and beads sewn on a black elastic.... Really neat if a tad clunky. But, boy would it be fun to do something with all my ladybug buttons and beads like that.... But I want to work on green...

You can get elastic cord in various colors. Or, you could use green ribbon and gather it onto elastic on the reverse - or go thru it with elastic cord. Then you could work on the green ribbon for attaching the decorative stuff, and not see the elastic.

For the heck of it I googld "green elastic" and came up with a lot of sites, selling green elastic for beading/jewelry. The one below is a "for example".

I mean the elastic you'd use for a waist band or cuff....

Ellice's idea of using a ribbon might have some merit. I use that on top...

Will keep playing with this in my head...

i'M SURE YOU COULD DYE ELASTIC BUT (sorry -- DH likes caps) you would need to use dye that would work on it. Try Dharma Trading -- they would be able to help you. Problem is, you might spend more $$ than you care to buying the special dye. OTOH, you *could* use Rit -- it will take on some man made fabrics, fibers, etc., it's a lot easier to find AND it's really cheap! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Covering the elastic with ribbon wouldn't work, because I'm assuming you need the "give" of the elastic to put it on over your hand, and a ribbon would be too binding.

Here's an idea: How about getting a bit of the knit "ribbing" used for t-shirts, etc. - it comes in various colors and has enough stretch. You could sew it in a narrow tube. You might have to use a stiff interfacing inside to give it enough weight to support the buttons and beads.

Last thought - if you went with elastic, rather than using dye, how about "coloring" it with a green sharpie?

My suggestion, my dear, was to cover the thin elastic as in threading the elastic through the ribbon, with the ribbon essentially ruched. Thus, when the elastic opens the ribbon will open and then come back. Would give a sort of ruffle look. You don't need a lot of excess for something like a bracelet.

Or alternatively, why not just use a doubled ribbon, and at the ends do an elastic joining. Something like a button and loop - done with elastic for the loop. Then you could just use black or whatever color elastic, and have the bracelet itself be on ribbon. Personally, I'd do a ribbon/interfacing/ribbon sandwich to have some body, and then button on one end, loop on the other.

LOL - not a bad idea, but. Ugh is my first response - I'm not big on Sharpies.

Well, for the first time, it turns out tea does a nice job making that glaring white a soft tan. I'm going to work with the 1/2 stuff and make a bracelet Monday

Oops, my bad! I either read it too fast a couple of days ago when first mentioned, or I misremembered!

Had a lovely visit to the LNS yesterday. I went with a friend who was looking for an suitable chart for a project idea, and I told myself I'd help her spend *her* money and save my own. Well, as usual - all good plans go astray. We ended up with her not buying anything, and I found something after all. But at least it's not adding to my stash...it's a birthday gift for a friend.

No problem....just thought I'd try to be clear - rare as that may be ;^P

LOL - seems to me you can't resist on a visit to the Stitching Post. I'm pretty loaded up with my stuff from the LNS going out of business sale. Plus, I cannot possibly justify anything else when I really need to be working on the finishing of my last original (Donna has already teased me about that), and getting the new one finally started - ugh.

We, OTOH, in some frenzy of other splurging have seen 3 movies in the last

10 days. Night at the Museum II - which was cute and funny - and hilarious from the POV of people regularly in the DC locales. Then we saw "UP in 3D"

- fabulous - but don't take kids in the 9-11/12 age - as they're old enough to get sad with much of the story but not so old to maybe deal well. Littler kids will just enjoy the amzing animation, and I think miss most of the "bad" . DH loved it. And, tonight, we saw "Star Trek" - which was really, really good fun. OK - so we haven't been to movies in a while, there is a fabulous theatre in our community - all stadium seating, clean, etc - and we have coupons for tix - so they're not so ridiculous. But, I think we're done for a while - though DH wants to see "Pelham 123" - which original he has made me see about 4 times this year alone. Uggh.

So, now I'll have to get down to some serious stitching again - as I'm finally going to have the last Baroque class on Wed evening. But, we'll see what I end up dragging out of the shop... Her last day is Saturday. Who knows.
