Good backgrounds for embroidery

When ever i go and visit in a cloth shop, i ask if he has an end of bolts, and esp ends of printed cloth , that are many atime a bit off color , or even have only part of the printed pattern .. This kind of cloth is my favorite for my Applique +Embroidery wall works. A monochotomatic of any sort, is either too clean ot too boring for a work. The sort of `faded` miscolored misshaped forms are incorporated into my work. I am using clean monochromatic backgrounds , for certain works , but i feel i am more free while working on that partly colored backgrounds, mirjam

Here, where I am, 'they' sell those end bits as remnants. We get those at a maybe 30-40% off the price per yard. I used one piece like that as the background for my yellow faery/fairy that I created. She is shown as the banner for the top of my blog. I didn't create her to be the banner, she was a creation I made for my mom for Mother's day. She is a wall hanging in her newly remodeled room. ;) I like the blended backgrounds as well. The solid colors are not a well blended, but they do serve a great purpose if making the main embroidery 'stand out' against the background. I suppose the embroidered piece then looks as if it is a separate piece, and does not seem as if it is 'part' of the textile. Is that why you use the partly colored backgrounds? smiles, alicia in Hawaii

YES Yes Alicia ,,,, you got it right !!!!!!> well

For example i am now making one work that deals with Pulleted water ,, A big tree stands on the waters underground , now if i had made this on a clean background , it would have far less impact ... miram
