How are you spending the day?

It's a bright cold day here in the County. It started off about -9C this morning and has finally 'warmed' up to just below freezing.

To set this up, I have to explain that this coming weekend is the 'Maple in the County' festival, and there are all sorts of events centered around maple syrup.

local brewery does a gorgeous Sugar Shack ale, made with maple syrup. In the fall, I got chatting with them about the cherry bread loaves I had made with their Yuletide Cherry porter. As a result, I spent the morning baking maple walnut loaves using the Sugar Shack for them for this weekend. I glazed them with slightly thickened syrup and maple sugar candied walnuts. I will have to do another batch tomorrow since I ran out of walnuts. The brewery is going to serve slices of the bread along with tastes of their beers. As well, they are going to have extra loaves on sale. And, of course, I get paid for them! Because of the beer and the dates in the loaves, they (like most fruit breads), are actually better with a couple of days of aging.

Now, I'm working on the never ending listing of my stash. It's DMC today. And I've got a big pot of chili on the go for supper tonight (plus lots of leftovers).

So how is your day?

Snipping a much better day than mine

Well,

I was going to go to a sort of local LNS to floss toss to find my colors for this (I found Flamingo and Almond in my stash)

But - I hardly slept last night. First - it was time for my "yearly exam". My gyn had a medical student in tow and I got two exams and the latest Pap smear technique

- I'm still crampy...

And I had fallen asleep with some Tylenol PM, but DH woke me to tell me that DS made the "2" team and I never got back to sleep.

So, tomorrow I'm trying again. I have some ideas, but really want to play some more....

I've have done a little laundry, should go do more.

DD has lacrosse tonight and I'll sit in the car and read and play games

Cold, grey, threatening to snow, a cranky miserable little sky. I drove across the city to my hairdresser's this morning, worrying that the freeway would be icy (the roads in most of the province were untravellable yesterday), but found the real hazzard was the side streets. My car is low slung and light, and doesn't fit exactly in the standard ruts, so there were several occasions I was glad that I am experienced steering in skids when the car bounced out of a rut onto polished ice. But, my hair is now shiny , less shaggy, and somewhat de-blonded...a good thing! Soon it will be off to work, from 3 pm to about 11. I am doing an inventory of all the consignment books in the store, and then will design a new system for recording them. I am also pondering my self-assessment for my performance review, which was handed back to me yesterday with the comment that I had not given myself enough credit. I hope my right brain can write the review while I count slim volumes of poetry!! Nothing quite like crossing the bare empty parking lot in a nasty wind, which will be what I am doing about 11 tonight, but home is only a 3 minute drive. Check the email, then off to bed with a good book (currently The Independence of Miss Mary Bennett, Colleen McCullough's pickup from Pride and Prejudice), a carafe of coffee, and, of course, Spark the used dog, whom I have discovered eats Dentibones in the bed while I am at work. Just trying to get to the weekend, when for the first time in more than a month I have two days off. And wishing it would stop snowing. In case it doesn't, I gave in to temptation and bought Nicky Epstein's terrific book of designer scarves to knit--she is fabulous.

Dawne, wondering if it is really possible that summer happened between 1 and

2 am a week ago, autumn at 3 am, and it is actually another winter. (theory of a friend of mine)

Snipping a much better day than too.

Headed out to a 10:45 DR appt. Finally saw the DR about

11:30. Headed home in time to catch lunch. Turned around to take my mom to her cardiology appt at 2. By the time we got out it was 4:30. Stop for milk, get home just before my brother arrives for dinner. "We're going out for dinner. Pick a place" we told him.

Had a wonderful dinner at Mitchell's Fish Market although I don't think I'll be up late.

Oh, the crocuses and daffodills are BLOOMING!!!

It's 10:05 EDST and I'm still in my nightgown. Yesterday I went to an EGA group meeting where most people created beaded ornaments. We had seen them at the hostess's (3 sss necessary???) home at another meeting and the group wanted to make them. Essentially they're styrofoam balls covered with layers of panty hose or tights with pins holding small doilies, beads and other embellishments in place. We were served a wonderful lunch. After returning to carpool rendevous point, I had some time to kill before going to to see my twin grandbabies. Had fun playing with them, did supper there and was home shortly after 8 p.m. I forced myself to stay awake until 10 and tossed and turned quite a lot.

I'm in limbo today -- trying to decide what I could stitch versus getting back in bed and reading all day.
