Needlepoint Software

Hi all,

Does anybody here make their own charts from photographs? I'm looking to purchase a computer program such as PC Stitch for example, but would like to know the quality / pricing and ease of use for the different programs. I was using PhotoShop but a virus ended that option for me as my PS CD is too old to run on this computer and I sure as heck can't afford $700 + to chart my pics! :)

Thanks everybody,

Maureen

Jim Cripwell does this and I am sure he will respond. I'm not sure which program he uses but he does some absolutely beautiful charts with whatever it is. I think the only time he works from a commercial chart is when he completes the stitching for another person! Wait about a bit and he will respond to this pos. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

There are far less expensive photo editing softwares available. I use Corels Paint Shop Pro and within that you could take the pixels in a pic and make a chart. You could always try a Free Trial download and run it off lol

I have never done anything elaborate with it, just lettering for an anniversary sampler, it was easy but as I understand it, the problem with the specific programmes is that they create confetti stitches and before using as a chart, you need to refine it down to far fewer colours, and it's a lot of work before you even get to stitching.

I would wait for someone like Jim Cripwell to tell you, he does it but I haven't a clue which programme he uses.

Pardon the shameless plug but maybe something like our online tool can be helpful for smaller projects?

works up to 120x160 grid size but it's free - see if you can make useof it.

Thank you everyone,

I e-mailed Jim off-group. What I was looking for a program for was to 'stitch' the family tree. Since this is a life-long project, I was just looking for something simple yet half decent.
