This message thread got my daughter(visiting from sunny California) and I reminiscing about the four day camp under canvas her first year in guides. I went along as helper and camp nurse. Rain or drizzle the whole 4 days. amazingly we both remember it as having had a lot of fun. ruby

BTDT. In fact, nearly every time we went, we ended up at the site furthest from any activities!!! In the later years we started *asking* for a site closer! LOL
Did the rain thing, too, in the one trip where we were using tents belonging to the girls' families and we hadn't had a practice set-up. Since we hadn't gotten them up properly, the rain, of course, poured into the tents, too, which soaked clothes and sleeping bags. We learned quickly! :) Luckily, that was that last day of that trip.

I remember camping in the rain not too infrequently with my family. We always had a big tent and spent lots of time playing Yahtzee, card games, Scrabble or just reading. DH & I purposely bought a six person tent before we got married so we could have plenty of room if the weather didn't cooperate while we were camping. I love the sound of rain on the roof of a tent.
I also went to Girl Scout Camp with a girlfriend when we were in
7th/8th grade (Treasure Mt. in California). Rather than automatically being "assigned" to a group or tent, we were allowed to pair or group up as we wished & the leaders would come around & check our lean-to for leaks and sturnieness. Jill & I were tickled pink to be one of the few "allowed" to stay in our own shelter rather than being hauled off to a cabin. :-)))I miss camping but, living where we do, it is almost like camping anyway. The house is in a box canyon surrounded (but not toooooo closely, for fire protection) by oak, madrone, pine & fir trees, with bears & cougars "in the neighborhood" without being an immediate problem. We also have good hiking (red buttes wilderness area) about
