I wish you the luck that guarantees one of your charges won't demand that you call her parents to come fetch her. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Oh dear! You are a much braver woman than I! I do recall a Girl Scout camping trip that rained the whole week. We were Juniors, I think. If I remember correctly, I had taken my guitar with me, so that kept my tent entertained when we couldn't really venture out.
I hope you survive the weekend! Tegan

I wish you loooottttttsssssaaaaa fun! Eeeeeek RDH
Are the parents going too? Cub Scouts can't go camping unless it is a family camp outing, where there has to be an adult for each family group of Cubs. This is a great help to the leaders!

Take the portable DVD player and "Singin' in the Rain" RD&H
You might want to think about picking up a few plastic tarps that will fit over picnic tables at something like Ocean State Job Lots: I remember(vaguely) being at a Myles Standish in Buzzards Bay and having one strung between 4 trees and 12 of us under that, while a few others were under a couple of picnic tables.

So it's *your* fault this weekend! It was my daughter's troop's fault last weekend. Started *just* before I got my daughter up there, too... and I stayed to help the girls move for the second time that evening. (they got to move back to the original, not *quite* so good in a very bad storm small cabins the following day). Oh, and I drove through
*five* heavy thunderstorms on the way back last Friday night. (*so* tired when I got home... a trip that should have taken less than an hour and a half took close to three hours.. and that was just the return leg)If it's any consolation... they had fun despite the rain, so I'm betting your girls will also. And the reason for crying that first night? Not the storm. (though two or three are quite scared of storms...)... it was because it was *dark* in the big cabin, even if there was a whole troop, and a number of parents in there.

I hope that, by the time you read this, you`ll all have survived and had a great time! Just watched a film based in New Hampshire - what a beautiful State!

one got really home sick on Saturday night, went sat with her sister (different troop, same Camporee) and made it home!
Cheryl
Lots of soggy fun!
Cheryl
Nope - I am "camp qualified" and can take mine troop with one other adult to any Girl Scout approved camp ground for an over night, teach them knife safety and other good things.
Cheryl
No electronics allowed!

We made and yes, this is truly a lovely place to live!

I remember the year I went to a two week camp and it poured the whole time, so much rain that all meals were taken at the mess hall instead of cooking one at the tent site. And I was in the farthest one out too! At least there, I could get clothes to a dryer and extend the wardrobe a little and stave off mildew. I'd have killed for a laundry room this weekend.

Blessedly, I was in a cabin!!

I was talking to one of my fellow leaders - here in NH we have had several days that a state of emergency declared for lakes, ponds, rivers, roads and low ground areas. She was taking a new group of Brownies out camping each time.

Shoot ! I thought you were in tents with pit toilets !
There were lots of jokes among the leaders headed out on this "camporee" that this was luxury camping. Sort of the summer camp experience in miniature!

When I was a summer camp counsellor in California in the Dark Ages, we had pit toilets and it was the favourite sport of ones assigned campers to drop their flashlights in same. Counsellor was the one who had to fish for the flashlight. All the kids had very wealthy parents and we counselors felt the flashlights should have been written off. No such luck. Mine didn't do it quite so often as I hinted that certain campers might follow the track of the flashlight and find themselves 'fallen down' the pit toilet.
I must confess though, I don't recall it rained a single day.
Oh I remember those all too well. Now most of the camps have chemical or composting toilets. Less odor!
Splashing mud in your direction! Cheryl
