OFF TOPIC - yesterday

Yesterday sure looked like it would a relatively peaceful day at 8:30 AM. Housework, GS prep and end of year paperwork, maybe a little stitching time before I go pick up DS and take him to get his new glasses. (he stepped on them last week.) DD is going over to the neighbor's to play with their little boy. Come home, get her and take him to skills ice time. Go out for a light meal with DD and hit Barnes and Noble. Calm, no rushing....

Then the phone rings at 2 PM, DD has rock in her ear. The nurse says that I knew about it when she left and that her "little brother" put there last night. (YEAH, RIGHT)

Go get her, go get him and start making phone calls - she's not in pain, there's no swelling, barely red at all in there. Mostly, DD is embarrassed now - she admits that she put it there at recess. The doctor's office is laughing and I get an appointment for early evening. OK, get a hold of DH; he's laughing even louder than the doctor's office.

Get the glasses and stop for ice cream on the way home. Rock loosens while she's eating and pops out. Get home, DS does homework, eats, drive to rink, drive to doctor's office in opposite direction - the rock has lots of sharp edges and is longer than wide. PA laughs just as hard was the nurse I talked to earlier. No damage, but no shower until tomorrow.

Finally finish my Wendy's baked potato at 9 PM, too wired to sleep or stitch.

Would it help to know that my middle dd once told the school that a kid on the playground caused her black eye two days before it went livid, but told us that she fell off her bed into the door?

She was in 2nd grade, going thru a lying phase. We had a lovely go round with the school's guidance counselor, and were damn lucky they didn't contact anybody else to report "abuse."

The kid is a natural born clutz (like her mom! ) so the falling off the bed into the door (yes bed was next to door) was probably the closest thing to the truth!

Been in that vicinity before. Joanna was sitting at the desk twiddling with a carpenters pencil and twiddled it in her ear and broke the end off it. She said nothing and eventually developed a sore ear. Finally, after antibiotics did not solve this ear problem, the more rustic doctor in Spain said he would syringe her ear. Clunk! into the kidney bowl it dropped. Instant cure.

Her siblings were not happy about waiting at the hospital though and losing beach time, they still sometimes refer to her a Leadhead lol

Never mind, this too shall pass - kids!

Sounds like a stunt DS pulled once involving a mechanical pencil and his nasal passages.

DD is attempting to imitate the "big kids" and do jumps with her bike and/or scooter. Oh the bruises and scraps on that girl. There is a cut that matches the handle bar bolt and huge bruise on the BACK of her thigh.

We've hit that age. Most of the teachers know me from past years. Yell yes, spank yes, damage no.

But my folks did once get a call about my black eyes - but those never fade.

This brings back memories of my days working in the office at an elementary school where there were no nurses on staff. A third grader came in and informed me very seriously that a rock had "jumped" into his ear. I peered into the offended ear, and sure 'nuff, there was the little round "jumping" rock. No way was I going to try to retrieve it! I called his mom at work and told here that Jason was in the office and that a rocked had "jumped" into his ear. She started to laugh and said she would be right over. She told me later the doctor had to put him to sleep to get it out. Apparently it was in very tight! She also told me that Jason had a history of objects "jumping" into various orifices. Jason has got to be 28 or 29 now. I wonder if he has managed to avoid "jumping" objects in his later years. 8^>

Don't start colouring it ! It's lovely when it's all grey, goes with anything and young women often pay good money to get that streaky look lol

I (unlike my sister and cousin) am going quite silver-white. I wouldn't mind so much, but so many of DD's friends' mothers are early 30's and here I am at 46....

Don't let it bother you! Not worth it. I feel all these blonde women represent today's version of the blue rinse - I used to be platinum blonde as a kid but blonde hair darkens over the years, so to be past 60 and still blonde ? wonder where that comes from ?

I just celebrated my 42 birthday and still have my blonde hair naturally. There are a couple of women at work that continue to insist that I color my hair. I tell my stylist this occassionally and see just laughs and says "Thank them for the compliment because if they think any stylist could get the 20+ shades of blonde and gold you have with dye and bleach they are crazy".

Even my eye doctor comments on the fact that he can tell I am a natural blonde because of the color of the inside of my eyes. Apparently blondes eyes are much more orange (more rods and cones) than those with darker hair.

blonde because of the color of the inside of my eyes. Apparently

Now that is something I did not know ! My blonde is gone now but I wear my grey/white with confidence lol

Lol - I don't necessarily trust those gynaes but then again, he was right when he said he was removing the crib and leaving behind the playpen lol

My hair kind of faded to a peachy color since I hit my 30's. No gray at all but just fading away . I did find a hair color that matches what I was born with, so I wash it in about once every three months or so :) Kim
