OK - SAL Canvas Work

That sounds great to me, Ellice. I DO have a LNS in town, and she has quite a stock. However if Caroline runs out, it is sometimes quite a while before she gets the restocked items in.

Incidentally I printed out the helpful response you made about stretcher bars ( not even sure what they look like) and will trot along to one of the two fairly close Michaels and see what they have; I suspect the new shop would be better stocked.

I am a REAL virgin about this project...I start knowing nothing!

Stretcher bars are essentially square (~1") bars that are notched at the ends so that they fit like rectangular dovetail joints into each other to form right angles - a square or rectangle with 4. They're a softish wood, and you then attach canvas with thumbtacks (or staples - not recommended).

The bars are made by about 4 different manufacturers, and are standardized, so you can interchange them. They're sold by length - most projects you do on canvas will be the size of design plus 2" all around (less, and you're stitching too close to the bars, which is beyond awkward). Some projects people will do 3" margin. Doesn't really matter.

When everyone is set, I'll be happy to send a little link and instruction on mounting the canvas "properly" so that it's straight on grain - or close to.

It'll be fun - really!

Thanks for being our "mentor". I am sure I could work it out, but you know all the ins and outs of it, and what to be watchful for.

Wow is that bad grammar, or what? Back to the Project from Hell.

Never Fear-Bad grammar makes it more personal! At least that's what I keep telling myself.

LOL - thank me now - you never know....But, I do like doing this. If this goes well, maybe we'll try doing an e-mail teaching thing with my next original design....

Sorry about the project from Hell. I'm back to prepping for the Tuesday job interview.
