ON TOPIC: Sock Monkey in Kia Car Commercial

OK -- did someone post about this and I missed it? I usually "fast forward" through commercials but when I saw the adult sized toys driving the car, I decided to see what was going on because it was cute. Maybe I am the only one who actually watched the Kia car commercial with the adult sized kids toys (Sock Monkey, a piggy bank I think, some pink stretchy type toy, etc.) driving around in a car, out on the town, dancing, etc. there is a shot of the Sock Monkey sitting in a chair getting a tattoo that says Mom inside a heart EMBROIDERED -- as in someone with needle and floss was stitching it, you can see it happening

-- onto his arm. It's good looking piece of needlework, too. I've been waiting for at least a month for someone to mention this but either I'm the only one who actually noticed what was happening in the commercial or I missed the post. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Ok - I admit, I've seen it, more than once (it is often on during hockey games) and I frankly think it is a riot.

And worse, I kind of like the music.

Cheryl (maybe I should be embarrassed to admit how often I've seen it)

Well that probably explains why Lucille and I don't know it. I do watch the National news, and Corrie but that's about it.

It's a great commercial - my DH caught it right away and actually said he loved the embroidered tattoo. Very catchy. Ah, the life of toys....

I've been sitting here folding the laundry and watching the telly that doesn't have TIVO. The Kia Sorento commercial came on several times and I realized that there are three or four different versions! In one, Sock Monkey is riding a mechanical bull, another has him making a snow angel, there's one where he is dancing and another where he gets the tattoo. The "friends" with the Sock Monkey are a teddy bear, a robot and some sort of really tall red character with bumps all over his body, one eye and big teeth -- LOLOL! In the version where Sock Monkey gets his embroidered tattoo, he's actually sitting in a dark, menacing looking tattoo parlor. The needle and floss is held by a man's hand that is fairly large and totally indelicate -- LOLOL! For those who haven't seen the commercial, at the end you see a little girl getting into the back seat of the car and there are the toys on the seat next to her. It's a very cute commercial with minimal "commercial" stuff until the very end. If you are watching the telly and you see the beginning of a Kia commercial, watch for a bit to see if it's one of the Sock Monkey ones. They really are worth watching, and I don't say this lightly :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

You're right about the versions. I think that one of them is the "full length" which covers the full adventures of the toys - including the tattoo, the bull-riding, the big red-guy hanging out of the roof - and the others are the short versions. Pretty catchy. I was telling DH about this as we ate our latish brunch - and it actually came on the tube - yes, I confess, we had it on while sitting in the breakfast room sipping coffee. Too funny.

I saw it the day after the Super Bowl, I think. Looked online to see what the commercials were (I skipped the SB itself).

Bobbie, you have just given me another reason to be glad there are no small children in my daily life at the moment.

Though, the other day, we did pull out one of the old RugRats movies and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Yes, I've seen it several times.....getting the Mom tattoo sewn on makes me laugh every time! I think the life size sock monkey is really cool.

And while committing a faux pas, I do have to add that both my children have sock monkeys and one of DD's team mates had a 4 foot tall one that used to come to games.

Over the years I've made a few sock monkeys. Great fun.

In Baltimore, there's a Visionary Art Museum that has all kinds of programming. One of the afternoon programs was a sock-doll making afternoon, and people were invited to bring all sorts of socks to make some decidedly non-traditional dolls. Sounded like great fun! (But I had another commitment and couldn't go. Boo-hooo!)

If anyone's interested, I found a set of photos of the event. Lots of kids...what a great activity!
