OT: Ike

I've seen the photos and all I can say is Oh. My. God. Is everyone on the Gulf Coast OK?

That's as it should be, I would be against rescuers having to take enormous risks to fetch them out. They were idiots, it wasn't a question of the wind so much as the tidal surge. How did they think they could cope with a wall of salt water ! It's always dangerous to disrespect the sea.

.. =A0Then there is

.

Our next door neighbor has a dog that they are supposedly keeping "for a friend." They never pay attention to it, etc. Little Yorkie mix - maybe five pounds - out in the sun all day in the summer and now, with Missouri getting the remnants of Gustav and Ike, they would have left it in the rain. We take it in - there is literally no dry place for it in the neighbor's yard. I want to just take it to the Humane Society, but it's not really "found" so I can't. ALthough they *know* we have Scruffy and don't seem to care!

I remember we talked about Scruffy before, I still think you could either keep him (I mean how much are they going to care?) or if you took him to a shelter several miles away, it's highly unlikely people like them are going to go looking for him. I think Scruffy would do best with you of course, because you care. There is something about rescued animals, they know they have been rescued.

Yes, it looks like he's staying. We tried talking to them and things got a bit better for about two weeks (those visits from animal control may have helped). Amazing what 48 hours or so has done - he's already got the potty training completed (lavish praise to our other dog means he's imitating) and is getting sit, come etc.

What wonderful news to read that you're going to keep him! Thank you for being so kind and welcoming to an animal so very much in need of a loving home :)

Something tells me Scruffy has found his home :)

It also seems to me that he's one lucky little guy.

If Scruffy has any sense he will become the most obedient dog in the world!

I'd turn him in as a rescue. And I bet there ain't no friend. I got this info from St. Francis, by the way. (Patron saint of animals...)
