I can assure you that we "Poms" have had very many years of understanding what a "war footing " means, and you`d expect a lot of the immigrants would understand it too, as so many profess to be here just to escape such situations in their home countries.
Our Police have done a good job in the past few weeks, making several arrests both of the last boming suspects, and of Islamic agitators. Pity it`s going to take months to deport them though.

While we are on the subject again, I listened (twice) to BBC Hardtalk, interviewing Anjem Choudray. If you want to be *really* frightened, this man will absolutely scare the pants off you.

"A Scientist with secrets?" reminds me of something on TV last night, in the fascinating programme called "The Coast" in which they`re going right round the coast of the UK.
Two little islands just off Harris are seperated by a half mile wide stretch of water, which, although a simple crossing by boat in fine weather, is a death trap in rough and stormy times, the people of the smaller island (Scarp) were cut off for weeks at a time.
Anyway, just before the war a German rocket scientist thought he could at least help with communications, and designed a small rocket to carry mail, medicines etc., and even had special "postage" stamps printed for the occasion. They packed 1800 letters into the rocket and set it up. Unfortunately he wasn`t allowed to bring the proper rocket fuel in from Germany, so they used gunpowder - and the whole thing blew up as soon as they started it off, scattering the island with letters! The Post Office collected them all and delivered them by more conventional means.
The German Rocket scientist returned to Germany, where the poor chap was arrested and imprisoned for disclosing military secrets!!!
On the programme they recreated the rocket - using the correct fuel, and it worked perfectly!

Nothing wrong with that. One of my uncles went down on HMS Exeter in the South China Sea (that's where she went after the Battle of the River Plate) and was taken prisoner and sent to Japan. He spent the rest of the war years working in a coal mine on the fringe of Nagasaki.
He died a couple of years ago now, did not speak too much about it all, but I know he starved most of the time and was left with itchy skin for the rest of his life, something to do with after effects of severe malnutrition. He was right there when they dropped the bomb but did live into his nineties subsequently.
I went with my mother, from Hong Kong, to join my father in Tokyo in
1947 (I think) and we went by sea to Shimonoseki in the south of Japan and from there by train to Tokyo. We went right past Hiroshima and even though I had been used to seeing bombed buildings, even as a kid I could hoist in that I was seeing something quite different. As late as 1962 my mother had a maid working for her who had a sister in Hiroshima that she periodically had to go and help nurse, she was dying even then from the lingering effects of the radiation.
You're behind the times there Mirjam. Although that was true, also in China with the One Child Policy, even the most stupid can now appreciate that twisting the ratio of male to female now leads to a marriageable female being a very valuable commodity.
Even our most raving left wing, black, member of parliament, said in the House of Commons, that when the British Empire ran the countries, there were neither half the wars nor starvation. So it wasn`t ALL exploitation - there were benefits too.

Is it ok with you if i forward this to one of my expert colleagues ?? The `reasons` you mention about the `failure` of the `resistance` were More effective and true and Harsh on Non German resistances and yet they had results .... mirjam
Judy , you will not like what i say ,,, but I think that it is not only the plight of the Palestinians , it is also our plight.
And Lucretia ,,,, The Palestinians Fight and kill and murder and Blow up people , they have a war with us , they are not suffering a Holocaust ,,, And Fundamenatlists of Both their and Our side do their worst , to prolong it . The Hollocaust was a pre planned Totall anihilation of the Jewish Nation and a 1/3 was murdered. Not many Jews Attacked the nazies , Only after several years of Murders they started to fight back a little. mirjam
And so do you!!!! Can you say Sharon does not send in gunships, build walls, imprison people without trial ? Those are all things that the Germans did that you say we should never forget, and yet you do them in your turn! The contest between Israelis and Palestinians is evil, of course the Palestinians are doomed with their fire power. However, while it continues you can never have peace. If you won't let the Palestinians have a life, expect to have war forever.
they are not suffering a Holocaust ,,,
To them it feels like it.
And
I can agree with that.
That one was but if you look up the word it is not exclusive to that particular holocaust.
snipped-for-privacy@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (F.James Cripwell), blest us all with:
Same here,, we just had some retard quoting our "Freedom of Speech" legislation at us on TV whilst telling us all it is fine to BTF outa whatever takes your fancy and HE is free to tell us so - in his opinion.
I think Baby Alex [Mr Downer to you furriners] may well be flicking through his file this weekend,,doing some homework for Immigration

The speed resolution of suspect to detainee is a credit to the Pommy Police. Now that the numbers and network is known (roughly) one would expect the ol' Bill to have their finger on the pulse and the fact these people (loose use) are in residence shouldnt be a problem? Least ways that is how its done on "The Bill"
Without being too small L liberal, it does pay to determine who should and who shouldnt be deported in these situations. We [.au] just found that out the hard way :-/

This a sad war, and in war both sides get hurt ,,, but now when we try to minimalize the victims , it still is judged to be not good? This thread started about the Shooting of one guy , by the British police , and many of you said it was ok , due to circumstances . The fence that at some placesbecomes a wall , has until now saved more lives , ON both sides , just to prevent cases like the above in London.
It is a war between both sides, > Those are all things
You are very wrong here to copmpare ! none of my family ever Shot murdered blew up or lintched any German , The Jewish People in Europe were not at war with Germany. But because of what happened in Germany we are now more careful and cautious of our safety , as well as the otther side . Are you aware ???? How many times Palestinians Killed Their Own people going to work in Israel ? Did you know that in many Suicide Bombs they also killed Arabs. ... Did you know that the Palestines sent missiles every day on little towns in Israel .into the International acknowledged borders. The contest between Israelis and Palestinians
It is a big problem and we are working on solving it. But of course you don`t see it , nore ackinowledge it.
Please remember that Our solution as well as the International acknowleged solution is "Land for Peace", so here we are working hard to give the land ? where is the peace ? " , give that some thought ? before you speak. We are doing a lot to starighten up our fundamenatlists ? why doesn`t the other side do the same ? .
Historions, researchers , church people , diplomats , everybody who speaks about it Use this term only for The systematic Destruction of over six million Jews by the Nazies before and during WW2. mirjam >
I got curious and reached for one of my dictionaries. There are two definitions. The first is with a small "h" and the definition is a largescale sacrifice or destruction esp. of life, esp. by fire
The second is with a capital "H": destruction of European Jewry by the Nazi's (usu. preceded by *The*).

As a Left winger he is probably quite happy that the tribal order has been destroyed ? I didn`t say all the Imperilaistic ruling was bad , and i am sure it also did a lot , eventually to spread other social [some good some less good], ideas, and behaviours. it brought work and took work ,,, it Changed those countries never to be the same again ,,,, mirjam
Yeah well, I really needed this comment. May I point out that your people aren't all innocent aswell? Your people are still not leaving land that is not yours, but of course that's a completely different matter and because it's me saying it it'll probably be taken out of context again.
None of my family ever killed a Jewish person either, still you put me down because of my nationality.
I can see it quite well actually. I can read. And the newspapers are full today because Jewish settlers refuse to leave the Gaza strip.
It's obviously not working so well on your side either, is it?
