A convenient claim, Mirjam. How should I read your posts?
This is simply false Mirjam. In East Germany, they were taught far LESS than in West Germany. I defy you to find any valid scholar who claims otherwise and cite that person here in a form that can be verified.
You have read my
You've used it about me, many a time. In fact you've used it about me within the last few weeks.
I don't jump on your words, I simply disagree with you and I have a right to do so, just as you have a right to your feelings.
I really don't care whether you research or not. It makes no difference to me. I don't usually ask people for their research on matters of opinion. It is only when people state as fact things I know to be untrue that I ask for their sources, so that I can see where they got their ideas or correct my own.
As an academic, Mirjam, I understand that having done research does not always make ones conclusions correct. You still don't seem to have grasped that concept.
What ARE you talking about? You have completely lost me here, Mirjam. You claim that I am incapable of understanding a discussion between a German and a Jew and now you claim that I don't want to, without ever providing any evidence that I don't. We're not talking about Dutch Jewery and we're not talking about propaganda. We were talking about whether it is possible to have a discussion with you without you calling someone a liar. It is my experience that it is not possible and no book in Dutch (which I don't read easily) is going to change my mind about that. You could change my mind by trying to be more reasonable in your discussions, but I won't hold my breath.
I wouldn't know. I'm not a Christian. And since you're the only Jew or Israeli that I've ever had this kind of difficulty with, I prefer not to generalize.
No, it's true, you never came out and called Nicole a liar, that I can see. But you did imply it at least once.
See, and I wasn't jumping on you. Isn't that better?
No, Mirjam, it's not. I'm generally very polite to people. I am occasionally brusque in my posts, but I am not the only one with that characteristic and I try to be understanding when others are.
Mirjam, you are rarely polite to me, unless repeatedly calling someone a liar and an anti-semite falls within your definition of polite.
And why is it that other people "respond" but I "jump?" How could you possibly know what I am doing when I respond to you? At least I have never put your name in the subject header of a post, nor called you to task for not sending me condolences.
And I am entitled to my interpretation, yes?
In this case, Mirjam, you are mistaken. You did indeed change your claims about the teaching of Holocaust history in German schools. And in changing your wording, changed your claim.
You may think it was stupid and uncalled for, but at the time, I was very angry and just as you are entitled to express your feelings, I am entitled to express mine. I still stand by that statement, as I made it, not as you claim I made it.
But you obviously deleted it without reading it, since you misquote it every time you remember it. I never claimed to know what your dead ancestors think. I never claimed that they were ashamed of you. I said that I felt shame for you. There's a difference. And every time you repeat that I claimed to know what your ancestors are thinking, you are telling a lie.
