OT: Little Mosque on the Prairie.

Last year Canadian television aired 6 episodes of a comedy series, Little Mosque on the Prairie. This show was written by Muslims, and is a lighthearted look at a group of Muslims setting up a mosque in the basement of an Anglican church in a fictious prairie town in Canada. There is a lot of Canadian humour, but it is going international. From our news today. "CBC comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie will soon be airing in Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Dubai, Finland and Turkey." Mirjam might be interested. "Israeli pay satellite channel Stars 3 will begin airing the first season of the show Oct. 23 in English with Hebrew subtitles." I will be interested in what anybody thinks who happens to watch the show. Luckily we are having a new series start here in early October.

Love the show - between that one and "Corner Gas" (also being sold to the US and elsewhere) there are some excellent Canadian comedies. The humour tends to be droll and dry. (I also love the "Mercer Report" and "This Hour has 22 Minutes", and "Royal Canadian Air Farce" which find their humour in current events.)

As an aside, I recently saw a news clip about a real "Little Mosque" located IIRC in Saskatchewan. Two families who had immigrated to Canada in the early and mid-1900s founded a mosque. It was lovely to see the families - very middle-class looking, ordinary Canadians who had, nevertheless, maintained their Muslim identity.

Heh. Thanks for suggesting this. I just wasted too much time watching some of the episodes online. I found it quite funny. :)
