OT: Lost in Nova Scotia

For Sheena and other Canadians, this was sent to me by an American friend.Lost in Nova Scotia (Only a Canadian would get this and well-travelled Americans and Mainers ) Two American tourists were driving through Nova Scotia. As they were approaching Shubenacaide (shoe-been-aack-id-dee), they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's name. They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the employee, "Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please pronounce where we are... ver-r-ry slo-o-owly?" The waitress leaned over the counter and said, "Tiiimmmmm Hoorrrrttoooonnns."!(1)Marg....(1)(for the non-Canadians or non-northern United States residents, Tim Horton's is a doughnut and coffee chain found throughout Canada and some of the northern US states). Mike Myer's in the movie "Wayne's World" based his Stan Mikita's donuts on Tim Horton's.

There are definitely Dunkin's all over RI. The meanish DSIL lived there for about 37 years, since DH was a little boy - and all those trips - well - lots of Dunkin's. Even in the nearly 10 years we've been together - it's one of the things we notice when visiting their part of RI - there really are corners with 2 Dunkin' donuts. If yau want coffee, well it's Dunkin Donuts, or the "Cumbie" farm store. Of course, someone opened a nice coffee/bakery café in their vicinity - so the DBIL sent us there from the house (SIL was late for us all to go somewhere). It was 12 miles from the house - all for a latte (only 4 miles to the "Cumbie", and about 6 to Dunkin).

I guess they do have some Tim Horton's there.

OK - I could understand that. The Colonials U-18s looked really good - DH was definitely impressed. I've been learning all these NJ towns - cousins who live in Scotch Plains have a beach house in Ortley Beach. So, our drive from here to there is kind of bizarre - thru the pine barrens. And I definitely know where Ramapo is. We're getting ready to go to NJ for Thanksgiving - plus the Bergen Alumni game is in Hackensack - on Friday night at 7 of all things.

I certainly can understand the travel issues. When DH played at Bergen, he also played for one of the Tier I teams on LI, and that only lasted a season

- it was too much with the travel, and school. He was very lucky when his folks moved to VA before his sr yr in high school - kind of screwed his hockey up - as there was nothing for him here - but he played in a men's checking league (with all the ex-CAPs, minor leaguers, etc). And I guess he worked hard - cause while he continued to play football- starting for the HS here, with no hockey to be seen - he walked on via tryouts at Cornell.

We know several kids that we coached around here, or played that are happy doing club in college.

Sometimes trips are just like that. But it's usually a cool experience.

Well, that's something good!

I like the headline in the Daily News that said, 'Joyce (co-founder) pulls a double-double'! A member of the Board of Trustees of the hospital holding the plaque that was to be presented to Joyce said, 'I don't know what we're going to do. This plaque says, 'Thanks a million'! I'm sure the hospital can use the extra million.
