In Indianapolis there is a food bank known as Gleaners

- they provide free food for low/no incomehouseholds/individuals, and also to the 'soup kitchens' in Indianapolis, aswell as other charities and shelters in Indianapolis and surrounding areas(29 counties in central Indiana, according to their web site). This past weekend some brain-dead thugs broke onto their property and stolecopper tubing from their refrigeration system* - to be sold at scrap yardsfor less than $200!

The theft wasn't noticed until Monday morning , when workers came in to work and there were tons of ruined food!

... About $500,000 worth of food!

*The refrigeration & freezers are located inside their warehouse, but the cooling systems look like huge industrial air conditioners and are located outside the building - the coolant was piped in to the coolers/freezers via the copper tubing.

We've been having the same stupidity here, mostly with thieves stealing the small copper piping from oil tanks to furnaces. Can$2 at the junk yard but literally hundred of thousands in cleanup of oil dripping into the soil.

I've come to the conclusion that they do indeed know what damage they are doing, but don't care, you would probably find it's the same where you are. There is a new class of petty criminal today and it's ugly. I hope your citizens rise to the occasion and get the food back for them.

This is a really big problem lately. I do hope they can recoup their losses *some*how! That's a lot of food to lose.

On a lighter note, I heard a story on the radio last week about 3 people breaking into what they thought was an abandoned building to steal the copper. Turns out it was a training area for guard dogs! One person gave themselves up, one got cornered in a trash bin and the

3rd ran for it and had several bites taken out of his butt by one of the dogs!!!

Just retribution, I'd say. :)
