OT: Sign of spring.

You make me glad I've left Ontario. We have cardinals and robins all winter long here in VA. I had bluebirds at my feeders a month ago. Crocus and daffodill are in bloom, and the small white pear blossoms are out as well. Of course in a couple of months when we start having 90 degree days with 100 % humidity, I'll be thinking of you enjoying a nice cool breeze!

It's been in the 70s and 80s all winter here in Texas where we live. Today it is going to be 84. All the redbuds are in bloom, as well as foliage coming on and buds are swelling. Perennials are coming up, wildflowers are starting to emerge and the Purple Martins have scouted and found the nesting boxes.

Doves are in pairs, mockingbirds are mocking and we're making our first batch of hummingbird food for the year.

Life is good.

So do we; cardinals do not migrate. However, they are not so noticeable in winter, and the sign of spring is when they claim their territory by singing their songs from the tops of trees. Cardinals could not survive here, unless people fed them; there is no natural food for them.

Jim, I recently thought of you when I read a magazine article about trilliums (sp?). Spring is definitely just around the corner ;)

Mine seem to feed on crab apples and such. I don't feed them, but I do see them and hear them.

We have cardinals here in northwest Illinois year round, so that doesn't help much - but the red-winged blackbirds have returned!! And 2 weeks ago I saw a robin. Spring is coming!

Oh yes, it's supposed to be in the 80s all week, possible rain mid week, which I Pray and Hope happens. Night temps in the 60s. This is spring in Texas. I live about 70 miles north of San Antonio in Austin. Maybe it will rain and the wildflowers will perk up and you'll see those all over our great state. Well, not MY great state, NY is MY great state! I'm just a transplanted alta cocker.

Is freezing rain a sign of spring???? I suppose it is somewhat more spring-like than the blizzards last week. Dawne, glooming off to Starbucks to have coffee with a buddy
