OT: Wilma Wow!

Hurricane Wilma is up to a very strong Cat 4 already. She dropped 69 millibars (pressure) in just 7.5 hours--down to 901 mb in the 2am EDT report. The eye is just 4 miles across (quite tiny) and the hurricane-force winds extend out just 15 miles from the center so there is an incredibly steep pressure gradient here. This storm might make Cat 5 before people on this side of the world wake up in the morning...

Sooner than that.....

CNN says: Wednesday, October 19, 2005; Posted: 3:18 a.m. EDT (07:18 GMT) MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Hurricane Wilma has strengthened into an "extremely dangerous" Category 5 hurricane, with sustained maximum winds of 175 mph, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday.

Lucille, how fast can you get on a plane to California? We're having

70s and 80s this week, so you'll feel at home; more importantly, NO hurricanes.

Cat 5 now, and heading for Cancun! I feel bad for all the hotels right on the water there, and worse for the Mexicans who live in the area they have so little to begin with.

They say it's gonna turn right and hit lower FLA after it's clipped the Yucatan and Western Cuba.

Our local weatherman, who seems to be better grounded and less hysterical than most, is a lot more encouraging about Wilma. His take on it is that it most likely will come in this direction, but he doesn't think it will be more than a category 2. That's based on water temperature and stuff like that. He is saying that we should be prepared, but he also said he doesn't think there's any need for evacuation or any kind of panic. I sure hope he's right and the rest of the media is just looking for a good attention getting news story and not on target.

Where I'm supposed to head in 23 days. I'm telling you, it's my fault. First New Orleans, which has become my favortie place to visit (with a trip planned for a conference in April that has now been moved Atlanta), and now Cancun, a vacation I've been planning for months now.

If there any city out there you'd like wiped off the map? I'll just plan a trip there...

I thought I was the only one with that talent. When I traveled to Israel there was an airline strike and we were stuck there for an extra 4 days. It could have been worse because at least it was a place with interesting things to see.

When we arrived at the airport in Lisbon, they had a problem with lobsters from South Africa that had spoiled so the place reeked of smelly fish.

The following year when we planned a trip to Mexico City and the Yucatan they had a major earthquake.

My friends started calling me triphoid mary

The Mets summer training stadium is about 1 mile from my house and if you get rid of them you take half of our economy with you. We meet them in all the local resturants and shops. Lucille

I had the same thought. And, in fact, #1 on my list works at the airport, so you wouldn't even have to leave the grounds, just go find him and work your voodoo before your next flight leaves.

Are you talking about the triffids (?) from star trek. They were those cute little fluffy balls of fuzz that reproduced like rabbits.

I was trying to do a play on typhoid, but I'm not sure how to spell that either.

Hmmm.....While I adore my parents and they still live there you could visit Long Island and cause it to be swept into the sea!

I'll let you know the next time they plan to be away, ok? ;-)
