I have to stop awaiting Piecework at the store and just subscribe already. It is such a great read.

No, not yet. I'll have to go out and track it down. I buy it on the stands these days, if at all, having let my subscription lapse several years ago. But Morris is a favorite, and it will be interesting to see what they make of him. Dora

Right now they are discounted subscription for $21 a year and that makes it $3.50 each and that is why I did it-- and made sure I got this March issue. I am a Morris fanatic. Have created many pieces inspired by these people.

Hi,

I'm glad you liked my article of May Morris - I had such fun reading up about her to write it! I hope I did her justice. She certainly was a very talented needleworker and designer.

About time she got some credit too!

Um... yes... if you like...!

I do find it strange when people want my autograph - yes, you were joking - but some people really do. I just think "But I'm only little old me..." All very strange really.

Thanks Mirjam - the editors made it much better than what I presented to them. I can write, but they can massage it into something much nicer! :-)

Yes, that's the one. But its not as big as the original, Jeanine... :-)

I got about 1 third of it done in about a month over the Christmas holidays. But then I got work to do... Its sitting *near* me again...

You are VERY VERY welcome Yvette But we both know that even the Best editor can`t make good if the writing isn`t ...... When i proofread catalogs, i find i can`t reshape bad writing, i can only correct typos and small accidental mistakes, i can`t influence the quality . AND YOU DID GREAT ,, mirjam

Congrats on getting pictures of your creations online

Questions -- is the Haifa at Night image true to life? Reason I'm asking is that the image is quite dark which may be your intent.

What materials were used in Tree?

Is there a story behind Soldier give me chocolate?

Thank you ANNE [another]

Actually my son started building my site in 1998. But thank you very much.

Well it is an alomost true to life image [of former years, now there are many more lights], It is Haifa at night , as an approach from the North. It is embroidered [with sewing and some Perle threads] on a black Shiny heavy Silk Brocade, hence it was very hard to have a good picture.

Nights are dark :>:>:>:

Mainly wools [ natural] trunk is knitted , the Branches /leaves of the canopy are ff crochet , Ribbons and [real metal] chimes hang under the canopy .

Yes , it is my memory , of following the American Soldiers, in 1945/6 in south Holland, and begging them to give me chocolade and chewing gum , which we than traded for food. They were Very Generous with us. mirjam

I produced a May Morris cushion once and it was a delight to do. She and Jane were talented.

I have half a shelf of books on Morris. I went through a phase on his work when we lived overseas and then once in a while I get a kick from my innards to do more. My last piece was an interpretation of the African Marigold rug. Russell did a good job on it in her book and then I went from there. There are three really good books that I know of with patterns on his works. The Two Beth Russell books= Traditional Needlepoint and William Morris Needlepoint and the Hammet book called The Art of William Morris in Cross Stitch that might be just the ticket for the lady who asked about doing cross stitch of his things. Are there more I am unaware of perhaps? If so please do add. In the William Morris in Needlepoint book, on page 15 bottom is the scene from the Hours that Jennifer Gilligan did a remarkable chart from. I have that started but not finished. I have made many many things from the Traditional Needlework book. It has been the most prolific pattern type book I own.I have made 3 things from the William Morris Needlepoint and I have done none from the Hammet book but since it is the theme, glad to own it. I do not do cross stitch excepting a sampler Christmas stocking set I add for the family when we get new folks(charts from Mary Beale ) and a few samplers in my youth long long ago. There are many lovely projects in that book though, 40 of them, and pretty true to Morris coloring.
