You might find the Christopher Dresser book of interest - seems like there is some cross pollination between Dresser and Morris.

Thanks to you oh Cheryl~ I have already checked into the Dresser book after reading your post. A Modern William Morris; neat.
Not that modern - Studies in Design was written in 1874. But his thoughts are curiously "current" despite being embedded in stilted Victorian prose.
