Gillian, from other groups I've been in, usually 35-40kb is recommended and quite adequate.

OK, thanks, Mavia. I was sure there was a rough idea of the approved size , and now you have told me what I needed to know. Now MIL has moved to her Ass Liv home, my enthusiasm for stitching has returned, and I have been working on UFOs, which of course includes the sampler that you nice girls up there in the Maritimes gave to me! I am about a third of the way through, and am at a "not fun" band. one over one on 28 is a bit rough for the old eyes, and concentration!!LOL

Thanks for checking the limits. I will do my best to let people know if there is a problem with an image's size. I would ask that we all try to police ourselves on the space, and will only step in if somebody yells uncle, or we get bogged down again. Just checked and overall they will give us 30 mb so space for photos. As of right now we are only using 1.03 mb of it and that is from the four folders this evening.

I'm looking forward to seeing that sampler stitched Gillian! I liked the design. Good thing those bands aren't too long! :)

A few thoughts on picture size in kbs. There are two types of compression to reduce the size of pictures. Formats like *.tif and *.gif give you a small degree of compression, but no information is thrown away. *.jpg files are different. You can get very large compression ratios by actually throwing away information. The key is what does the picture look like after it has been compressed, and then restored in size? As I understand things, it may be possible to use compression ratios of 20 or even more, and still have the image reasonably recognizable. So if you are anxious about using up too much space, try encouraging people to use
