Question for UK Stitchers

I've been getting to know a really sweet disabled woman living in Kent. I would like to surprise with a care package of cross stitch supplies. What are the hardest things to come by for stitchers in the UK? Is there a size or color of Aida fabric that is difficult to find? Floss? I've already picked up things like a cute pin cushion for her sewing basket. Any help is appreciated.

Floss isn't exactly hard to find but is relatively expensive - DMC is about

From reading this group I picked up some tips on what to look for... I had to really hunt around for Fray Check and still haven't found Thread Heaven (though you can get beeswax in a plastic thingy). Also I have never seen the dmc linen floss, though I notice it has now appeared on their website. Clover cutters start at about £11. Everything is so much more expensive here I'm sure she will be delighted with any offering! Please be careful that the value of each package is under £18 or she will have to pay both customs duty and Post Office charges. I once had to pay £11.50 for a $45 package.

Incidentally, when looking for Thread Heaven I saw an Antiques Roadshow programme where they had a beautiful old sewing box. It contained a tiny spoon. The expert said it was for scooping out earwax to run along the thread!! Antique embroideries have never looked the same since!

Best wishes, Carrie

Don't know where you're shopping Carrie but

has all of these things and delivers within 24hrs. Might not be accessible to Jaenne's old lady but certainly a lot cheaper than wherever you're looking. Clover cutters are £5.19, Fray check, thread heaven and the DMC linen thread are also available.

I've bought from them for years, in fact, they are usually the first place I look, followed by

Old lady? She's ten years younger than me! LOL! I've made her a pin with a large magnetic front. She can pin it to her clothing to park needles, or pin it on the fabric by her stitching.

Thanks for the tip Sue. I have checked all the LNS in a 10 mile radius so I reckon I could order online with a clear conscience! 3 new bookmarks coming up...
