I thought you all might enjoy the "Quilt of Belonging" - a project to reflect the various groups of Canadians who make up our ethnic mosaic, and their origins. Two members of the Trillium Embroidery Guild to which I belong were involved - stitching the Slovenian and the Iranian blocks. For the Slovenian block, Anne Marie attached each piece of fringe separately to give the 3-D effect of one doily on top of another although it is one piece of fabric. For the Iranian piece it was a family effort, with Jeannette's dad designing, and her mother and she stitching.
One unfortunate happening - a vandal sprayed acid on it during it's display in Cornwall, Ontario (They think someone with a spray bottle walked along and held the bottle at knee height). While they didn't catch the culprit they have been able to repair the damage - frantically matching fabrics and fibers (including seal skin).
