I don't have an answer for what particular stitch guide to use, since I'm just beginning to venture into that arena myself. I have one laminated leaflet that I got at the Old Mill that I've been using for the few stitches that I have attempted.

This one, though! Oh.. I'm the opposite of you, I guess. I really detest those oversized, fold out charts. I think because I do make working copies, and find they are such a chore to piece together, get to fit the copier, etc. I love the "regular" sized charts for the ease in which making that working copy is done. Since I don't work at the hotel anymore, have my own small, inexpensive home copier, those oversized charts represent a challenge that work my last nerves these days. Tegan

Could you use a different symbol for those quarter stitches, with an explanation? For example, * means 2 quarter stitches in DMC 834, whereas / means 3/4 stitch in 834 and @ means whole stitch in 834 (I would put these all one after other too). You could have an explanation of same near the top of the floss list or next to it.

I think a separate backstitch chart and beading chart would be useful. I've seen several charts where there are other charts, particularly if the face is "over one" and the rest "over two." The backstitching areas would be clearer if you used the separate symbols for 1/4, 3/4, etc.

Stitch charts for unusual stitches are a must!

Personally, I think a large chart looks cheaper. Makes me think the designer didn't want to spend a few extra cents for another sheet of paper. Also, I'm an enlarger and mark as you go type - much easier to enlarge from 8 1/2 X 11 than from anything else!

As to the fonts, I know you can download some off the net. I have one called Cross Stitch 2, although I can't recall where I found it. DId you try office.microsoft.com? They have some free fonts. Or try a Google search?

Oh, and you didn't ask, but I thought I'd throw out this particular pet peeve, too. I really dislike colored charts. Since I do work from a working copy, they make trying to make one truly dismal. Another challenge I encountered with making a working copy at home was when I went to make one from the Long Dog chart, Bagatelle. They use a heavy paper, but it's just about an inch longer than "regular" paper. Wasn't a problem, as there was enough blank space top and bottom for me to juggle around, but since I'm still learning to use the home copier over the big one from work, it worried me a bit.

And while I haven't tackled anything complicated enough (yet) to require a seperate chart for backstitching, I do have a couple of charts (TW's I believe) that do have a separate chart showing the backstitching and from what I've seen, I'll appreciate it when I get there.
