Nutcracker -- both on-topic and off

Off: Our Nutcracker Moms will be amused to hear that our PBS station is showing the Baryshnikov/Kirkland Nutcracker for Pledge Week, and the station president is making sure he mentions regularly that his nephews are performing and how you can get tickets to their performances. You might suggest that tie-in to your local PBS station next year.

On: A friend has asked about a Nutcracker XS chart. Any suggestions? (She means the actual wooden object, not the ballet.)

Country Cross Stitch & Country Crafts published a chart years ago. It was also re-published in a Better Homes and Gardens Cross stitch issue (Christmas 1990). I've been meaning to get to that one at least 15 years now. Dora

If it was in CS&CC, then I have it. Somewhere. Question is, whether it's in one of the ones on the shelf or one that's kitted up and waiting for my attention.

I always kind of liked this one, though I haven't bought it.... yet!

Sounds like a Sunday afternoon project to me. Make yourself some tea (or something stronger) put on some music and prepare to spread them out all over the floor. Dora

Ooooooh, thank you, thank you! I think she had in mind to make a stocking of it, and here it is already charted that way!

Thanks whole big bunches!

Well, perhaps next Sunday afternoon. Today I was putting the final stitches into a bookmark that went from bday present to belated bday present to Christmas present.

When I went a-stashing with a friend at the beginning of the year, we found these nifty bookmarks. Two pieces of suede with a roughly 1x3 window cut into the front one, and a piece of 18-count canvas in the window.

Sounds like the kind of stitching schedule I would follow.

Little projects like bookmarks can be very deceptive in terms of how long they are going to take. Dora

Ooh, I do like those ones... too bad they weren't bigger! That is the design style I'd like too. Hmmmm...... Thanks for the link! Jeanine in Canada

Sometimes I do the pattern on 14 count over two, with more strands of thread in the needle.

I know that Just Cross Stitch published a series of three nutcrackers - the King, the Santa, and the Drum Major - sometime in the 90s. Charts are about 3" by 8" on 14ct. I only have the charts. Don't know if they ever published them together in a leaflet like they did with the rocking horses. Maybe someone out there has these and is willing to part with them or at least share which issues they are in.
