On and Off Topic

Hello all

What an ending to the year. I had a cold from triple Hades for the last two weeks of school and the week after we were out. So Memorial Day weekend was a wash for doing anything. I was exhausted after getting through finals and registration. Thank goodness that I had worked ahead on the three on-line college classes that I was taking for recency credits. I did get behind though on the next two college classes as I no more got over my cold and had some "guy" problems which apparently have been lurking for about two years. Go figure. If this is what the forties are like what are my fifties going to be? I'm falling apart already!

Anyways, of course I have a pile of unfinished projects and of course started a new one. Our art teacher whom I admire greatly and that I will miss terribly has retired after 27 years. But, she is off to Japan for two years to teach art at an American school for K-12. That will be a change since she has only taught high school for the last 19 years. So, I had to make her a quilt for her retirement. Here is the link.

It is a total departure from my usual, but since it was going to an art teacher it had to be. She loved it and I am really quite pleased with how it turned out.

Also thought that you would like to see our blue poppies. They are native to the Himilayas but grow very well in Alaska. A gentlemen up in Palmer has dozens of varieties that he sells. We have three varieties but this is always the first one to bloom. Here is that link.

This is enough for now. I've got to get some other things done before I ask my questions.

Following everyones challenges. May the shine shine where it needs to, rain fall where it's needed, both in moderation of course, repairs be speedy and manageable, and bodies quickly heal.

Beautiful quilt, Steve. Those little hexagons are a delight.

Don't worry about your health - it's just that you notice it after forty, as you've been used to being healthy for so long. Once the rot sets in (and a friend 'did her back in one day after her fortieth birthday!! - never right since!), you'll soon get used to it all. The fifties will be fine; you'll only notice major stuff >ggg<

I've tried many times to grow Himalayan poppies - failed every time. Lovely flowers though - whether I can grow them or not. . In message , steve writes

What a fantastic quilt! Great idea for signatures too. I was glad to see the blue poppies -why are their leaves so different from other poppies?

As for your health issues, my DH is around to tell you that life will go on. Roberta in D

Steve, the quilt is lovely. I also very much enjoyed the pictures of flowers. All are beautiful but my favorite is the optical illusion of the hanging baskets. Fun :-)

Lovely quilts and great photos. I cannot get the blue poppy to grow, have tried a few times.

I would love to do some digital images with your flower pictures and print them off for a quilt. Shirley

I really really like that hex corner. I've never done any stack and whack thingies, Maybe I ought to look up how. As an artist I seldom do freeform anything. I do not find it freeing to try such work, I find it annoying. Art teachers through the ages have gone at me to try and get me to "go with the flow", and "experience the art". I've never been able to even figure out what they are talking about, much less manage to do it. (G)

I looked at Himilayan blue poppies with great interest this year. I have a largish shady, almost woodland, area that I want to plant in. Nobody who had them where I was shopping had them from seed, and everybody wanted $20 or more per plant for them. Too pricey for me!

Steve, that is just too cool! Maybe one of these days I, too, will try to create an art quilt..........in the meantime, I will sure enjoy looking at yours.
