Hi, I bought some satin to use for a parasol cover. It's not very waterproof, but I was wondering what the general consensus is as to whether it wil be stong enough (before I strike out on a long sewing project). Thanks, John

But a parasol is a sun-shade. What does "waterproofness" have to do with it? Surely you wouldn't take it out in the rain?
For a parasol, satin should be fine. You might even like to consider a lighter fabric. If it's really a rain umbrella you want - a "parapluie" as opposed to a "parasol" - then I'd suggest the satin.

I have even seen Antique parassols made of lace ,,, Satin would be ok , But if it is meant only as parasol and not for rain , you might use strong cotton as well ,,, easier to sew,,, mirjam with wonderful memories of my praternal OPA who manufactured both ,,, Parasols and paraplus [Dutch spelling]
I'll echo the other sentiments. Satin is very strong. To use? Depends upon the final use requirements.
