Semi-off Topic: Needlepoint/Knitting store rant

Agreed, no one wants to get ripped off. What irritates me is that I can go to my local knitting shop and buy Aero needles for the same price as Bates needles at Michael's, *but* I need to use a 40% coupon at Michael's to make the price comparable. In addition, I prefer the Aero anyway, but it's still frustrating.

My first big project I did with Addi Turbos. It is the shawl that was on the cover of Vogue Holiday issue a few years ago. I did it in a mix of chenille, ribbons, rayon, mohair, etc. Very big needles. But, it worked. Since then I've added and found that in the more normal (not size 17) but

I have one set of the Clover bamboo, and they're ok. But, I definitely really like the Brittney needles - which I think are made from ash. They're smoother than the bamboo needles. I tend to really prefer using those when it's cold - though I do use them in summer as well. But, the Addi Turbos can be quite cool when I'm knitting in a rink. The Brittney's aren't terribly expensive - I guess between $4 - $10 depending on size and length.

Undestand what Brat wrote about the Addis being too slippery - that has happened with me, and seems to depend upon the yarn, etc, and a little bit of attention paying when I first start up with whatever I'm doing on them. I used them in size 3s for a couple of baby sweaters, and they really made for fast knitting.

I have the Brittanys (double points) and I like them. But my favorite double points, in small sizes anyway, are the Crystal Palace bamboo. The points are better than the Brittanys and the finish is really really smooth.

Like you I have a lot of needles that have been given to me, but it's funny how sometimes you just don't have the right needles for the project.

I recently knit the Booga Bag, the pattern said one could use double-pointed needles or a circular. I had the correct size in double-pointed, but after fighting with them for an hour and a half I found the closest yarn shop and bought a circular, which was much more fun to knit with. Guess it's what we get comfortable that makes knitting enjoyable.

I have used the Clover bamboo needles and love them. While we were in New Hampshire (Central Harbor,Cheryl ) I bought some nice birch needles. I like the smoothness of them, and the light weight. Also, the click-clack is silent for DH!!
