Semi-OT: The little things make me so happy.

So, I got bifocals first when I was about 12. Boy, did I gnash my teeth when they took them away from me at 20. Been kvetching about it to any doc since, but nobody was feeling the love.

FINALLY! (I'm 38, mind) a doc actually cared what I use my eyeballs for and was more than happy to give me my bifocals back. When I made it plain that no, I don't surf the web 12 hours a day JUST for kicks and that money is also involved in my stitching, plus having two little kids and all the fatigue that goes with them, he gave me a sympathetic smile and said, "Sure."

I'd kiss him but we're both married to different people.

Sounds like you finally found an eye doc who really wants his clients to see.

I have a great guy here. Bifocal contacts AND bifocal glasses. I need the glasses (upper section) for the computer and the bifocal section (lower) for embroidery. He understood what I wanted when I took a piece I was working on in with me and told him that it was 28 count and for me that was big. He thought it was quite small. We spent time finding the correct focal length and now I have no choice but to use good posture when I stitch because if I don't I can't see what I am working on.

Luckily my ophthalmologist is a friend whose wife is a stitcher. He also is a motorcyclist, so when I talk to him about needing different strengths for stitching or computing, or how to make sure I don't have problems with my contacts when I'm riding, he really does 'get it'.

I had a full-face helmet because I couldn't stand the bugs.

You bet - full face helmets are the only way to go. I still find, however, that on very long rides (say, when we do a 500 mile day)the wind that does get under the helmet tends to dry out my eyes. So I usually wear sunglasses under the full-face. I have a Shoei Synchrotec with the flip up chin-piece which I love.
