Small scissors to be allowed on airplanes

Dianne , this statement by Susan is an Accurate description of what is going on in many places in the world,,,, And No!!! one would not easily spot a trrorist watching a place he is interested in ,,,,, you probably watch some TV films and see that watching can be done in many ways. And Security forces do this for you , think of ways to prevent you being killed . mirjam

So you should ! I remember once when my younger daughter was small, I thought something seemed odd about her. About 10 am I found the answer. She had dressed herself and had two legs in one hole of her panties lol

You see, you imply again that there is something 'wrong' with my daughters story.

It doesn't seem like a joke to me. It is a damned inconvenience and lends a false sense of security. If and when any terrorists are ready to take over another aircraft, rest assured, they will do so. Of course they won't use banned items, their ingenuity will carry them along and they will do what they are going to do.

Don't quote me what El Al does, 12 'planes I believe, Air Canada has some 3000 in the air daily, security checks such as you suggest could not be done.

I don't even believe they will be interested in aircraft next time round - something like the water supply is far easier and would create a stunning amount of casualties for very little effort.

And By the Way Dianne , good security is not always to tell all that they caught somebody with a certain weapon , so that it will be easier to catch the next one ,,, as he won`t change the system so quickly . mirjam

Lucretia , next time you cross a street , don`t bother to obey red lights , also Don`t look to the sides , just go ahead and cross the street ,.... Mant people obey the Road safety codes and still are run over , so why bother at all .... according to your own IDEAOLOGY .... mirjam

My point exactly. It's almost as though they think the terrorists are stupid, even though they have proved they are not and they will always have the element of total surprise on their side.

While I think there may be idiots and mentally disturbed people who would try to bring large knives and guns through security (and some journalists have done so to prove how easily it could be done), I don't think a terrorist would try. I mean, if I was a terrorist bent on doing some large-scale destruction, I wouldn't make the effort at an airport anymore. I'd find some other way. There's tons of "security holes" that we're not managing while we worry about underwired bras.

If they have arrested a number of individuals who belong to terrorist cells, I'm wondering why the government isn't making "hay" over this and really publicising it to prove their point.

IMHO Airport security is an oxymoron, like 'Government Intelligence'. Generally their self important attitude out weights their common sense and eyesight.

Just after 9-11 I had to fly on a business trip. The national guard was just past the security section and armed with guns. Guess when I found my long lost expensive embroidery scissors - after I was past security! 2-3 pairs were in the project bag I grabbed just before leaving home. And they missed them all! I have always gotten on the plane without a problem with tapestry needles, knitting needles, and crochet hooks. The one time they did take a thread cutter, they took it because they saw an itsy bitsy blade tucked safetly in the design - nothing deadly - I could not use it to cut anything but thread.

I think if these people had hobbies like we do, they would understand more about what was dangerous. Frankly, I'm more dangerous WITHOUT my needlework to keep me busy and soothe me for the upcoming flight.

And after 9-11 we ALL know what CAN happen and will do our best not to let it happen again!

I feel safer having my needlework tools. After all...It has been proven that even after 9-11 if anyone really wanted to do such awful things they still could. It might sound sort of goofy and extreme, but now we have an opportunity to defend ourselves and save the lives of others without carrying big knives or guns.

Can you imagine someone's little old grandmother holding off terrorists with her favorite pair of embroidery scissors! Perhaps its highly unlikely, but it is possible.

I hope your daughter and the others were able to put their bras back on, once they had been inspected! Seems to me it would be unduly severe for them not to be allowed to (actually, the word ridiculous kind of comes to mind).

No. They were ushered to another small room where they could remove their bras and hand them over. They were then allowed to board the plane. One of the five women would not turn hers over, so she did not board.

My daughter said when they did board they got some peculiar looks from other passengers who were very curious as to why they had been singled out and then returned to the flight.

Perhaps when four bras showed up in the confiscated property collection someone pointed out just how ludicrous the whole exercise was ?

Nowadays they`d probably just be thankful if they weren`t wearing a thoNG!
