So what will today bring

I made Cincinatti chili last week - actually grabbed a recipe from Cook's, with some modifications of course. Interesting - used some cocoa powder in the spice mix. Their rather odd revelation was to boil the meat for about

2-3 minutes - so it would separate, some fat came out, then take it out and drain. Then wiped out same suacepan, and continued the recipe. Turned out well - so we had Chili Mac (on pasta). I do have some in the freezer, but....

We'll see.

Trust me - day 7 of at home or going someplace with kids/husband and none of it has been fun go places - I'll take my chances on the roads.

Actually, I have just brewed a fresh cup of tea, have the latest Jade del Cameron book, and I'm going to bundle up and read.

Everyone's fine. The leak was capped very quickly, and the station was only evacuated for about ten minutes, but as I was listening, I heard my brother come on the air from inside the building. Apparently somebody had to stay inside to keep them on the air. I hope my mother was on her way to work by then. A fibre sale sounds like fun. Heaven knows, you've earned a day out!

I did grammy-please-take-me-to-school-so-I-sleep-an-extra-hour duty this morning. It's pouring again and the little gadget on my 'puter desktop says it's 62 outside. Please cross all your fingers, toes, and eyes to ward off any more slides caused by water eroding banks and holding areas.

I'm low in "what could I make department". I recently tried a variant on Chicken Parm that was pretty decent. (got up, removed chix from freezer) I think that sounds like a dinner plan. Only have iceberg for salads, but it will work

I wish all of you could be here enjoying my breezy, sunny day just doing some stitching, or just talking and having a cup of whatever drink makes you happy.

I'm out of here shortly to go and have a mammogram so you know I truly mean that.

Snort - I know people that would come help with the clean up for their gardens.

I'm on the laundry and stitching schedule, too. Goal is to have every single piece of laundry finished before DH returns from Colorado on Thursday. Someone is complaining about missing socks...

And I guess I need to go do a little snow/ice removal from the walkway as we are expecting some packages.

Too right, my grandmother had a bucket and shovel in the trunk of the car. Anytime she saw horse shit in the road, one of us had to get out and retrieve it, couldn't be wasting that !

Funnily enough I was going to suggest Ellice shovel it up and give it to you for your garden !

My mind went to the possibilities of manure as "snow melt" when the ice budget is depleted....aren't compost piles rather warm spots?

That's why we didn't shovel yesterday. It felt so - neglectful - but it's better to have ice on top of snow than snow on top of ice...or ice on top of pavement.

Last night we had to cancel our "stitchfest" that meets at church, so one neighbor and I went to another neighbor's house to stitch and chat. We ended up doing more chatting than stitching, but it was good to get out! All my evenings out lately have been community meetings, so a "fun" night out was called for!

Yes they are, but manure should not go in the compost. Maybe a good ripe manure pile would do the trick though neighbours might hate you !

I'm lucky today - DD gets off work early and she and her best friend volunteered to make dinner tonight. (They like to entertain themselves in my kitchen.) The only caveat was that they have to cook from what's on hand in the house - no asking for extra $$$ to go to the store and buy a bunch of extra ingredients. They love the food channels and like to go all-out when they cook. Fun once in awhile, but not every day!

When you're out driving with the crazed commuters, remember to get the tortillas for the tortilla snowflakes!

Remember my post from earlier in the month: "maybe your kids might have fun making tortilla snowflakes (if you have some in the house, that is!). It was in NN's latest newsletter:

Good luck!

Joan, in ND where it's actually *above* 0 and only a light dusting of snow this am.
