What are you sewing today?

Today I am slogging through window coverings. I should be quilting. ; )

Are you guys getting a chance to sew today? Hope so, hope too it is more fun than roman shades. Maybe as fun as awnings? Taria

I have managed to sew another 3 blocks for the sampler quilt I am working on at the moment. I have had to make more blocks than originally planned as our bed is a bigger one than the one we had when I started this back in 2004..... Now I only have 2 more blocks to make and have *just* enough fabric to complete them. Cutting those last 2 can wait until after i have had my caffeine tomorrow - there is no capacity for error.

I am doing a basic baby quilt using 5" squares for a couple of friends of DS. I t will be very simple and no fuss. I did have to walk away and leave it because I made a couple of mistakes and will go back tomorrow and hopefully I won't do that same again.

Just about to design and make two baby quilts. A commission from friends w ho had their first 2 grand-babies arrive within 2 weeks of each other. They are in their early 70's and very pleased with the arrivals. I've chosen pa le pink and soft chocolate colorings. Both new mums are nearing 40 y.o. an d will probably prefer these 'sophisticated' colors . Will post pix when completed.

Did you get the roman shades finished Taria?

I have completed the extra blocks for the sampler quilt - now that is on hold until I can get out to choose sashing & backing fabric. While waiting I have worked on my Katharine Guerrier workshop quilt - this is her sample:

and now I am making 6 1/2" crumb blocks from the box of trimmings & scraps.

Oh Lizzy, I am in the shade doldrums. I got one finished and it was an inch or so too narrow. I just wasn't paying attention to seams and linings and such as good as I should have. That kind of got me interested in any other projects I could find! I am carrying on from there though. That sample is wonderful. Are you doing yours in batiks too? I was able to get all my scraps into one collection when I moved my sewing stuff. I need to dive into crumbs too! Taria, hoping fall is around the corner!

Sorry to hear your shade ended up too narrow - I am lucky in that our window surrounds are quite wide so if I aim for the widest measurement it will still cover the window if it comes out narrower than intended,

It looks much harder than it is. Essentially it is a disappearing 9 patch with pieced "mini-blocks" in some of the corners. I am using a wild selection of remnants (not small enough to be scraps!) with purples as the linking colour. I need to make eight more 9 patches before it all goes onto the design wall. Katharine's sample was about 55 x 55 and I am making mine half as long again so that DS2 can use it on his bed - he *loves* purple!

It has felt less summery for us in the UK the last few days, and it is still August :-( I am hoping for a last gasp of summer before the weather really changes.
