"KCat" , got just a tad shirty with:

Certainly not. Generally though,, you will find this NG has a varied and *healthy* scope of discussion. Being new you would not know that so I go to the trouble of providing a "quick start", for you.

..and most wise. Limiting your read serves *_you_* no good. The rest of us (collectively) get on with it..

..see above.

D R I V E L ....and puuurrleese be consistent. IE: If Dribble is" DRIVEL" then "can't" is carnt :-D

Scripted killfiles are a useful exercise in frustration, only. Particularly when the client does not support flexibility.

Just give me cause and I will prove that fact

The only filter worth having is right between your ears. Set miscreants (IYV) Headers to "mark read" . You may then keep an eye on their 'activities' whilst avoiding a download of the Bodys, simple and works.

FWIW ..if you want to lose the OT topics and the - as you say - meandering of threads, then convince the majority such practices are harmful and those of us who do enjoy them will move on. See who fixes your washing machine, toilet, motorcar, laptop, marriage, drug problem, then There are not a lot of healthy discussion groups - where everyone gets a go - left, in mainstream UseNET. This is one of the closer knit groups. Yeh there can be the occasional fascist attempt a chomp buut it lasts but two heartbeats. Thats a healthy group.

cheers.

ROFL!!!

I was wondering how long it would take someone to remind her!

Caryn

Here's another venomous barb for you then....

Felt like you lying or playing martyr. The Dead are, afterall, very silent folk!

Caryn

"Jaenne Bonner" , made a plea for sanity to prevail with::

You do not need one, no one does. alt.* groups are truly public domain, freely.

You do from me :-) You did the crime, this thread has forced you to do the time,, let that be an end tuit. Here endth the lesson.

jLb

Best way to play "dead" is to fulfil your promise not to post on the subject!

I believe I have already committed myself to that. I do walk the walk when I talk the talk.

So why the F*** are you still popping up!!! ;-))

Pat P

I am only politely replying to you. :-))

Pat,

I think this chick has gone from spamming nuisance to troll now! LOL

Caryn

Troll, eh? Why, Caryn, that is the sweetest thing you have said about me. I am blushing.

Jaenne

Oh.. :P A little subtle for my little noggin'. :)

believe it is possible to only discuss stitching, if we did,

I think that's true. And depending on the topic, perfectly acceptable. There are some groups that will absolutely skewer you if you go OT regardless of labeling. one of the things I like about the IPB type of forums is that you can so easily categorize. Our pen forum has categories for pen talk, for repair, history, etc. And then chatter forums for everything from prayer requests to pictures of our pets. it's called being human, I think. In the lupus support forum I contribute to there are rarely arguments much less flames. It's a rarity. Yet we still talk OT quite a bit.

Yes, I have seen much worse. The worst forums I've encountered over the years were support forums. But then it was largely dealing with folks with mental health issues. But even one of the more popular pen forums is developing a reputation for regular flame wars. It is "moderated" but so lightly as to be almost pointless, IMO. Unfortunately? it is also populated by some of the most knowledgeable folks in the hobby. And it is not an IPB style forum but boardhost which is Usenet-like in it's organization. Problem with it is that people can stay in a thread and change the subject line to reflect their opinions. So we get long threads of "you're an idiot" "no you are" "bite me" etc. that one can't just ignore by not opening the thread - it's all right there.

and so... i trundle on back to FPN were it's nice and quiet. :)

"KCat" , shone the living light with:

heh, heh...twas not safe to say "bonded"... ..conjures up all sorts of variations on pun phun?
