Swap box?

Anyone else with too much stash that s/he'll not likely use want to participate in a swap box with me? It's a kind of round robin but what travels is a box full of stash. You take what you want and put in items of similar value that you don't want and send it on to the next person who does the same. If you take a new item out, you put a new item in. If you take a used item out, you put a used item in. Or we can specify only new items. What do you all think? Anybody interested?

I'd be happy to organize it, but if I'm the one organizing it, I'd like participants to be regular or semi-regular posters to the group, at least until we see how things work.

I have participated in such swap groups and it was great fun! One was for full unused kits, another for charts and yet another for half finished stash as long as it had all the stuff to finish it with!

Have to say thought, the best one I did was amongst UK members only. I find a lot of the charts the Americans put in were quite "twee", full of folk art and rustic stuff. Definitely not my taste :-(

I could very likely be talked into this. :-)

Let`s try and start one up amongst UK folk only again, Tracy - joining in an overseas one would be a bit expensive with our recent postage increases. Any more volunteers on our side of the pond? Just charts to start with, perhaps?

Yes I agree Pat. One of the ones I was in was a world wide group and I have to say it often cost more for the postage than it would have done to have bought each chart I swapped!

However, it was great fun and I'd be in for another, if you're offering to organise it?

Charts would def be an easy one to start with and what nicer way to spend a bank holiday weekend than going through one's stash seeing what you've got, but forgotten about

I do believe I could be talked into it too!! It would be fun!

Hmmmm, I believe I could be talked into this little adventure too. I've been a "regular" poster for years too so can be considered reliable. There will need to be a few guidelines/rules, etc. I did one of these swap box things years ago and the stuff that was in the box was mostly older charts nobody wanted........it's too expensive to mail junk so we'll need to make sure only "good" stuff gets sent.

Speaking of going through stash, one project I was working on earlier today was setting up an Excel spreadsheet for stash (title, designer, publisher, category, and such). I have 147 *kits* (various media). No wonder my stash took so many boxes to move.

I could very likely be talked into splitting the postage with you. :)

Would the swap include threads or fabric, buttons, etc?

I'm regular reader, not posting that much thou. I'm this side of the pond, but in Finland. I'd like to swap charts maybe? Flosses are so much expensive here that it's no use for me to swap those, because I cannot afford to put anything instead of some "precious" flosses :(

The first and only time I did something like this, the stash disappeared, so the idea of limiting only to people who have been around for awhile appeals to me as at least some protection against that. If we are going to go international, we will have to limit what is sent, in order that postage be something reasonable. Dawne

I don`t mind starting it off as long as I`m not stepping on anyone`s toes!

So - anyone interested in joining for a chart swap, please email me privately with your details, and I`ll get the ball rolling. Proper charts, please, not cutouts from Magazines. (Weren`t we in one that degenerated into mostly cutouts a few years ago, Tracy?)

I think we really need a minimum of six members to really make it work. If you have any Email UK stitching friends who are serious stitchers, but don`t come on RCTN, spread the word among them too!

For anyone who hasn`t done it before, a large envelope containing as many charts as there are people on the list, is forwarded onto the next person on the list, who chooses one or two (or even all!) of the charts, and replaces them with the same number of charts from her own collection and sends the whole lot on to the next person on the list within 7 days.

If it is successful, we could consider adding threads, beads, fabric, etc., to the contents, or start another "Round Robin" specifically for that type of thing. Just charts to start with, though, until we see how it goes.

You could join in our UK one (Charts) Johanna - I`ll put you on the list after me as I don`t mind the postage to Europe.

Yes Pat we were and it was damn annoying, especially as I had at that time every copy of every magazine going, so had all those charts anyway

No mag cut outs and no photo copies please! Proper charts in good condition is what we need :-)

Ooh! I'm getting all excited already :bounce:

I don't post often, but I read all the time. I'd like to be in the swap if at all possible.

I think we could decide that, but I had thought that it might. I have some nice pieces of Davos and Aida that I will never use, as well as some specialty flosses in inappropriate colors for me. I guess we'd have to see what people think.

How about if people who are interested email me by Friday and I'll put a list together. We can discuss details by email rather than here once we have the participants list.
