Which came first - the automobile or the fabric?

A google search came up with the following Coupe De Ville fabric at Hancock Fabrics. Maybe this is what they are talking about:

A recent eBay auction for a lampshade described the frame of the lampshade as being lined with "coupe deville". I dashed to dictionary.com and found there was no entry for this mysterious fabric, and a Google search query resulted in many thousands of references to Cadillac Coupe de Villes. I didn't have the time or inclination to slog through the Google offerings in the slight chance of locating a reference to something other than the automobile. Does anyone have a familiarity with this unusual fabric?
