Waterlilies by Caron exchange?

You see, I'm fortunate and have a accumulated few skeins of Waterlilies by Caron (aren't they scrumptious?!)

I wondered if there was such a thing as a silk floss exchange? I'mthinking maybe 18" cuts -- swapped on a one-for-one basis... would thatwork? Is there such a thing currently in progress? As you can see I don't have many but would love to expand my color palette. Goodness knows I'll not use 6 yards of any of them -- not with

12 strands per...

So, #1) Is there a silk Waterlilies exchange going on at present? #2) If not, would anyone else be interested in one?

I am ONLY interested in swapping Waterlilies -- not Waterflowers, Sampler Threads, et al.

J, who loves using silk floss -- and yes, it goes without saying I'm a Thread Heaven afficionado too!

I don`t have any to swap - but what a good idea!!! Must remember that for the future.

I think I could have my arm twisted into participating in such a swap... Oh wait, that's right, I upgraded to a self-twisting model! Count me in if you get one started. My only thought might be to make the exchanged piece a little longer, but that's just my preference for how I stitch. I know I have several in my stash, but I'd have to look to see what ones they are. Or should we maybe just do it as a "mystery". Just make sure everyone labels their bits! Nothing worse than having a sample of gorgeous thread and being unable to identify it! Heather heather.eberhardt at gmail.com

I`d suggest a metre as a nice useful length. Mind you, knowing Murphy`s law, whatever length it was it would be just a stitch or two short (but PLEASE don`t tell Jim!).

What a great idea...I only have a couple of colours but that's enough to start swapping!

Absolutely Addie... even a couple of colors, if one was willing to send multiples could garner loads of pretty color choices.

Just thinking out loud: we put the floss on bobbins, with the color name given by Waterlilies PLUS our userid (some means of identifying ourselves)

And you're correct Heather -- 18 inches isn't enough... I just opened my Ambrosia skein and it would be VERY SIMPLE to simply cut it into 6 one yard floss sections. Would that be okay with you ladies?

I think it could be fun, and definitely easier on the purse than buying multiple skeins at $6 a pop.

I do believe we should have one rule however: Smokers need not swap. I really can't stand the stench of stale tobacco residue.... Of course if others can tolerate nicotine stains and such, I'll understand. Goodness knows we all have our quirks. We stitch and I do not argue with anyone familiar with how to use SHARP NEEDLES.

J, getting excited!

I have quite a lot of Waterlilies; I rarely use it, so putting in a yard of several colors would be easy!! The package wouldn't be very big, either, which is another plus!!

So ladies, let's do it! A central person to do the swapping sounds best and unless someone else so desires, I'll volunteer. Of course before I sent my perfectly good floss off to a stranger, I'd want to know their reputation for integrity, thus I offer my eBay feedback page:

Basically, email your name; address and approximate number of bobbins you intend to send. Please wind a one yard increment of the floss on a bobbin, writing name of color plus yours on the bobbin. Send six, and I'll send you back six others.

I'm in Pensacola FL. -- snail mail available -- write me direct at snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com Even if you only have one or two skeins of Waterlilies, please play. Send in 5 skeins and I'll send you five different colors -- suddenly you too can become a Floss Floozy!

Not 5 skeins, but 5 bobbins. (duh moment) Sorry, etc.

Ummm... I'm not sure I have 6 different silks... I'll have to check my stash. Could we maybe make it a "send what you have, get an equal number back" type exchange? Od do you mean 6 lengths total (even if they are only 3 colours)? Heather

Duh! It would have helped if I'd read below email address... my brain said "It's a .sig, skip it..." Heather

As long as you send 8 bobbins or less Heather I can guarantee you'll have all different floss colors back (because I have 8 colors myself) Another stitcher is sending 8 bobbins (2 colors, 4 bobbins of each) -- so it looks like we will have 10 colors available...

Have fun and sure, sending duplicates would not be unwelcome... Quite frankly I'm going to swap out duplicates myself (taking a skein and turning it into 5 bobbins to share, plus a keeper for self!) -- that's the whole point for my own stitchery (smile) to take duplicates and replace them with other colors choices. All I know for certain is seldom do I use an entire skein of any floss, but I enjoy using bits and pieces of various colors in samplers and such.

I know -- clear as mud.

Cool! I checked my stash at lunch. Any excuse to go home and fondle floss! I have 4 different Caron silks, and about 10 others. Since this exchange is only Carons, those are what I'll use. I can't seem to get your email address from the earlier post (I'm stuck using Google groups, bleech!), so could you please email me: Heather.Eberhardt at gmail.com . Thanks, Heather

Oh Heather, I understand the floss gazing... I do that too! There's so much potential in silk floss.

This is one of my favorites (the butterflies are silk though not Waterlilies brand)

Ladies, the first three colors have arrived -- Ice, Opal, and Sky Blue Pink -- they are gorgeous!!!

These are the colors we have at this point: Blush Olive Ambrosia Storm Clouds Succotash Mountain Meadow Sunglow Spruce Ice Opal Sky Blue Pink

Pistachio Nut (only two more bobbins of that one!) Morning Mist (gone, to the first swapper)

So, ladies, if you haven't mailed in your bobbins, now would be a good time to do so. :)

Update: New colors arrived today!!!

Williamsburg Sunset Jade

plus, the very popular Sky Blue Pink (said while smiling -- it's a beautiful color) Swapping continues

We are waiting on two more colors (should arrive tomorrow) and I'll be mailing out your goodies the next day. We have some wonderful choices ladies -- I'm ticked for all of us.

One thing I did notice though was that some of my skeins (specifically, all but one color) were a bit shy of 6 yards. So far just ONE SKEIN had the 6 yards indicated on the label. As most of my skeins were older and brand new prior to this swap I'm assuming the quality control, i.e. length of floss, has improved since these were purchased. Heck, mine were old enough to have hand-written labels. Just something to be aware of....

Heather, yours were beautifully wrapped on the bobbins - could you while looking at yours check to see if the "remainder" actually equals

6 total yards? Since most of mine did not, and for certain Gil's Ice didn't, I'm curious. It's not a "bit deal" (I kept for my keeper collection the oversized bits -- basically I'm short by between 1 and 2 feet per skein)

Janice,

I think my two colours might take a little more than one day to get to you - it is a fair distance from Alberta to Florida! :)
